Re: One year

Porter has been in my thoughts. I'm sure he was beaming with pride as he watched his family learn to ski - what a wonderful tribute to him! Will you continue skiing, do you think? Thanks everyone. Today would have been his 10th birthday, so that's really tough, but we're getting better, day by day....

My thought exactly. At this point, I'd rather run something in Europe! Dublin? One of the races in Italy, followed by pasta y vino...?

I adhere to the old German saying: "There's no such thing as poor weather, just a poor choice of clothing..." That said: 1) Layers -- big time 2) Yaktraks 3) face/head coverings and glasses 4) always take a mobile phone 5) if at all possible, run in areas with safe stopping points (conveni...

Re: Marathon documentary

My friend loaned me both this DVD -- which was good -- and one about a British guy who decided (as an overweight, inactive 20-something-year-old) to train for 2 years in order to qualify for the British Olympic marathon team -- which was GREAT. The hubris! But the transformation! It was a fantastic ...

Re: NY Marathon cancelled

I just selected my option: I'm going for the refund. It's bittersweet for me, because I'd been so oriented toward doing the NYC Marathon from the beginning of my running. But after the November fiasco, and then running Philly, I'm not sure when I'd want to run NYC. So, I'll use this year to improve ...

Alrighty...back to winter now... it's -14 with the wind chill here in balmy NOTL. I've head-faked my new running friend into a nice easy 10k today, by promising her hot chocolate when we finished. Hopefully there won't be any frozen digits. :)

Body still aches. Nose is still running. I'm still coughing. But since I have the half-marathon in 2 weeks, I went for a 12k run today...anyway.... Perhaps not such a great decision.

Re: Perth Kilt Run 2013

If worse comes to worst, you can order a kilt for about $60 from sportkilt.com -- they are intended for running in, and they are comfortable. Just be sure to order at least a month ahead of time.

Pills and booze. OK, a Robax and a beer, but the first description sounds cooler.

Re: It's Saturday here in the Philippines.

Got out for a 10k run today, though my legs were really tired from yesterday's ski day. Sunny and -1, without any wind. A beautiful run down the Niagara River Parkway. Since the recreational trail isn't maintained in the winter, I ran on the road, and everyone moved over and waved. There's something...

I finally went out and had a 7.5k run last night, after a couple days of being sick in bed. Apparently, I have a half marathon in Miami in 3 weeks....Ack! I have run so little since the marathon that I think it's going to be a *leisurely* run! I'll be ramping up my mileage after that, in anticipatio...

Re: US Olympian reveals secret life as a Vegas call girl

Cheating on your spouse with other people's spouses is hurtful, aggressively selfish behaviour. It's not a victimless sexual preference. Society rightly stigmatizes misanthropic behaviour all the time. It's part of the social contract. I don't agree with this -- I think a lot of marriages are based...

Re: US Olympian reveals secret life as a Vegas call girl

I don't think it's meant to be a joke. It's hard to tell if she actually has a pathological mental instability, or whether this is just a outlet for life's stresses-- one that she may actually enjoy. In some ways many people are "unstable" but just have different ways of managing it, some...

Re: For ladies only...

The 32F is gone to a good home now, but the 38FF is still available. I'm really not sure of the equivalent size, because an F is DDD, but I can't find a listing for a FF. if you know anyone who might fit it, let me know and I'll send it along! I just hate to waste it because, for a runner with this ...

For ladies only...

Hi there, A friend and I ordered Freya sports bras from a UK company, because we both wanted the red and that was the only one we could find. Alas, after buying them and having them shipped, they just don't fit, so they've never been worn. They are each a red, underwired sports bra, in sizes 32F and...

Re: NY Marathon cancelled

I just checked my credit card statement, and the credit card company re-charged me for the marathon costs. So they've rejected my contention that it was "goods not delivered as paid for". Did anyone else request a charge reversal? What happened? Double Bellybuster -- I think you did as well?
