... but when she was excluded based on her "talent and performance" from the marathon, she sued. Interesting, that. You'll have to clarify that one. As I remember things, she met all the explicit qualification criteria for both the 10000m and the marathon, only to be pressured (by an admi...

Re: Lanni Marchant lashes out at those who focus on her look
When she has come before the Canadian Olympic Committee and Athletics Canada making her cases for inclusion based on her talent and performance, many in the running community judged her for how she dressed while she was running. ... but when she was excluded based on her "talent and performanc...

Re: Article: Running Is The Worst Way To Get Fit
Is there a kind of strength training that's enjoyable?! Cuz I'd be willing to try it if there is. :P I asked my buddy the same question, he sent me this. Looks less boring, maybe. Might try it during this off-season. https://www.reddit.com/r/bodyweightfitness/wiki/kb/recommended_routine" onclick="w...

doing whatever you can stick to sounds like a cop out to me. am i the only one who eats certain vegetables because they're good for me? i'd enjoy 150 calories of ice cream much, much more than a plate of vegetables, but i know that eating veggies is good for my health. sure, i can say, "well, ...

Re: Article: Running Is The Worst Way To Get Fit
If you don't like strength training and fall off the wagon, you won't get very fit. That's what I found... strength training in small doses I can do, but man is it boring. I would rather spend my time out in the world running or biking than in a gym or basement grunting. Whatever you can actually st...

Re: What's a few seconds worth to you?
In giving this further thought, the marketing of lighter, quicker bikes is not really to address reality but fantasy. Who does not want to "win" a Strava segment for the month, the week or even the day? So although it is completely pointless, there are much worse ways to "waste"...

The other thing with the pros is those seconds can be the difference between getting dropped or staying with the pack... which in turn could ultimately lead to minutes.

Re: Marathon Back Quarter Improvement
No tricks... All I can come up with is: (1) Mileage - the accumulation of steps, no matter how slow and no matter how spread out over the week, will make your legs more resistant to fatigue in the later stages of marathons. (2) Patience - endurance adaptations take place over months and years, not ...

Re: What's a few seconds worth to you?
Hmmm... I see a few seconds over a one-mile hill as a 1-2% effect, which in a running context, is comparable to 3-5 minutes in a marathon. If a pair of shoes could promise me that, I'd look into it further. I get the sense that there are a lot of middle-aged triathletes for whom a really nice bike ...

Recreational use vs. intentional performance-enhancing use isn't relevant- cocaine is a powerful stimulant and would definitely be performance-enhancing if used that way. Which means the ban is valid and athletes should avoid "accidental" exposure. Which I still don't believe anyway. http...

Although I find it unlikely that 50% of x-country skiiers are actually asthmatic... so maybe it's more a question of objective diagnosis for most of the cases. "Exercise-induced asthma" arises in many otherwise healthy individuals when breathing in cold or dry air at high rates. On the oc...

Ultimately even this grey-area compels good athletes to have to play along and get into the grey area, potentially compromising their health to not fall behind the performance enhancers. Best to crisp up the rules to prevent this kind of misuse, like they did when they banned meldonium... Given the...

I realize that. I meant he didn't have anything to gain in the series standings. Either way he knew he was giving up his chance to win to help his brother- that was obviously more important to him at that instant. THAT is why he was out there. Kind of a weird sacrifice, though - he could have won the race, instead he helped his brother not with the championship? If you start comparing when it looks pretty good, do you keep going even when it doesn't? It's a crappy road to go down, best to not even start - enjoy the competition for what it is and between who is there.
