Re: Run for the Toad

Wow, you got on as a volunteer? You are lucky Tracy! We heard -- I think it was last year at the training run in July that they already had all the volunteer positions filled! Not only is it a popular race to do, but it is also a popular race to volunteer at! See you at the chip pick up! And hopeful...

Re: Run for the Toad

We'll see you there Trixiee! The good thing about the Toad is if you decide you want to walk further than the one loop, you can step off the course at various spots and you aren't really all that far from the start. There seems to be so many people this year with various issues that are preventing t...

Re: Winter Racing?

What about that one they have in Toronto where they all run in Speedo bathing suits? I would call THAT winter running!

I know it isn't actually a race though.

My friend actually carries her lipstick in her pouch and applies it while she is running while she heads into the finish line. And, no, she is not a 30 minute 5K-er like me. She ran a 22:04 5K at the Toronto Women's half in May and came fourth overall. Wow-- I've heard of fast women that do...

The thing I wish it hadn't taken me a couple races to figure out (this is for bigger races): The first mat you run over may just be the one so that the announcer gets your name and can announce you...the second mat is the one that picks up your time. Don't stop until you know you've crossed the fin...

Our friend Sandy always said that 25K at the Toad was about equivalent to 30K on the roads as well. However, if you really wanted to do 32K, you could always get your medal at the finish line and then continue on and do another 6 or 7K if you really felt like you still needed to. There is an aid sta...

Lay your clothes out the night before with the chip on your shoe (if it is that type) and all ready, so you don't have a race morning panic. For an example, see Andy's (hcmd) photos of his night before clothing organization. Run how you trained which means don't do anything new on race day. Ea...

Oh, too bad. I seem to recall you had surgery or something like that around when you were moving but didn't realize you weren't running for that period of time. I don't have time to read all the posts on RM it seems and must have missed that. Well, buy the bib, come and get the bag and eat the post-...

We've already done the Cruise to Run - in 2008. More about that below. Don't you have to book through the Ancaster Cruise Centre to do the Cruise to Run? Do they still have previous booking prices? We hadn't done a Princess Cruise, but I think we paid about $1100 for a balcony with three of us in th...

Carrie, you did great, especially for such a tough first time trail race! There is nothing wrong with walking the hills. Sandy, who has trained us has said to us many times to walk the hills and save ourselves for the flats (if there is any! ) So we walk ALOT of the hills in the training and t...

Thanks for all the tips. Now I REALLY want to try it. I looked up hiking trails in my area (London Ontario) and couldn't find much online. I may take a trip to the Running Room near where I work and ask if they know of any good ones. If you go out around the Byron area, check out the Warbler Woods....

I haven't done Dirty Girls and I don't know if anyone from here that has done the Fat Ass has done it to compare. It is much more technical than the Toad. The Toad, being in a conservation area is more groomed in places. Not to minimize the Toad because it is difficult in lots of spots too but Bataw...

If you go to Google maps and put in Batawa Ski Hill, it will come up. The address is 99 Ski Club Lane, Batawa, ON K0K 1E0. Exit 525 off the 401 and head north for about 7 minutes. Batawa's claim to fame is it is the former home of the Bata Shoe Factory. Sonya Bata is still very involved in the devel...

You have to come Ian! It sounds like it would be right up your alley -although I don't recall any sheep and goats out there. Actually I don't recall seeing any animals out there, but we have noticed coyote tracks. A couple of years we did share the area with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment w...

The Hilton Garden is $102.60 per night for two beds, with two people per room - that is the CAA rate or the 50 Plus rate (yes there is a bonus to being over 50!).

If you book in advance and pay now (non-refundable), you can get the room for $91.20.
