Meandering Monday

I had a lovely ride to work this morning (though my back is quite sore today). After my ride home, I'll switch bikes and ride over to the indoor cycling studio for a computrainer workout.

Re: Freezing Foggy but Fabulous Saturday

Went out a bit later than usual and it was quite warm. Ran 8.7K in 58 minutes. Now that I actually have a race goal of running 10K in under 60 minutes, I'm going to have to ramp up my training.

Valid point. Public shaming has gotten out of hand.

Re: When you run Boston with Ridiculous Enthusiasm..*now with text!

Will you keep in touch with Tom and Kathy? So cool how you had founds some support on the course. I plan to. I tracked down their full names using their bib numbers and I knew where they were from so I have managed to find contact info for them both. We formed quite a bond during those tough miles ...

Re: Cool or Not Cool?

Is there even a question here? I can't see how any runner would say that either of these things are cool at all. Well, obviously the people who did it thought it was cool otherwise they wouldn't have done it! ;) In the first example, my opinion is that they were being selfish by only thinking of th...

Cool or Not Cool?

I saw these two stories on that Marathon Investigations site: https://www.marathoninvestigation.com/2017/04/human-chains-medal-thievery.html Cool or Not Cool? 1) Runners forming a human chain while crossing the finish line in Boston? 2) Runner taking an extra medal at the finish line and giving it t...

Re: Velofix

I just used them recently. Good basic tune-up (my bike didn't need anything replaced). In my case, I did it with a group through the indoor cycling studio I go to, so they didn't actually come to me, I had to take my bike to the studio since they were working on several bikes that day. That also mea...

A little over 6K done in the beautiful sunshine this morning. There was a cold breeze off the lake on the way out, but it was very warm with the tail wind on the way back.

I've lost my motivation, even for slow, easy trail runs. I'm hoping the spring weather will help, but its hard to make that first step out the door. I've been at this a long time, and over the last few years cycling has helped. Someone give me a boot in the *ss, please ? Dave posted that he was out...

Re: Woman Collapses at Half Marathon

This video of a woman in a half marathon in Philadelphia is somewhat sickening to watch. Her knees buckle so 2 runners grab her arms, but she still can't stand so another runner carries her across the finish. The news commentators seem very dense by saying how loving that is when it is actually a m...

Re: Where are people buying discount shoes these days?

Thanks for the tips. We also have a RR warehouse outlet in the west end, so I might check there, too. It doesn't have to be online - I don't mind driving to stores in the greater GTA - I just don't want to pay more than $130 (tax included) for shoes! I'm fine with past years' models, too.

Where are people buying discount shoes these days?

My current shoes are a year old (don't have a ton of mileage, but I'm still due for a new pair). I bought my last pair (Asics Kayano) for $75USD at an outlet mall in Arizona, but since I don't have any plans to travel to the US anytime soon*, where are people buying their shoes at a good price here ...

So when a poster eluded to the fact that someone is a "creep", where was the clique at that time to call this particular poster out on that? But if you don't stand up for people and call them out on bad behaviour, isn't that just letting people get away with it? Our kids are taught in sch...

It was great to read Gary's short report and hear again in his own words what happened. Looking forward to Gary's full report in a few days. Also a big shout out to John Kelly (a triathlete!) who became Barkley's 15th finisher. Meantime, this article includes a statement from the race director abou...

I'm a big girl, and can fight my own battles. I also gave up caring about what other people thing of me quite a while ago, so I can take pretty much anything. There are plenty of spaces available for people who want to get into p!ssing contests. Every space (virtual and physical) where people meet has a culture. I wonder, though, if he's as heartbroken about it as we all are for him. I guess it depends on what his motivation is for doing it, and how he defines success.

Re: "The Barkley Marathons: The Race that Eats its Young"

Well it sounds like he also didn't cover the actual course, so even if he had made it under 60:00:00 it wouldn't be official? He approached the gate from the wrong direction so he wasn't on the right trail at the end. Then again he had all the pages from the checkpoints so I'm not sure. Heartbreaki...
