Re: Training programs

Bike: For the long ride, I would build up to 120km and ride it as a steady state effort finishing very tired. Other rides; one ride high effort for about 40k building to 60k, another for 30k building to 40k and another ride of intervals/hills that will total ~35k-40k. So about 4 rides a week? Or mi...

Re: Training programs

Sorry for the lack of detail. For triathlon - olympic and HIM distances. For whatever reason, I don't like time-based. Intensity info is a given, so not a real concern. I guess my mindset is when you do a marathon program the daily distances are nicely laid out for you. That is what I would like fo...

...it's not going to matter whether you rode a total of 3,000km, 2,942km or 3,012km. It very much does matter how hard you ride those km's though. Time based training or distance based training is meaningless without some kind of intensity guidance. The biggest mistake made in bike training is to d...

A little over 10k @ 4:45/k. Since the NYC marathon I haven't done much and it shows; today's run felt good but my HR was >10bpm higher than comparable runs a month ago.

Re: Mid-Level Tri Bike - What's my price range?

Decide if your goal is to compete or participate in triathlons. Then; If your goal is to compete, buy a triathlon bike if you only want (afford?) one bike; bar end shifters really aren't difficult to use in general riding. Spend as much as is appropriate relative to your goal(s). Despite what my goo...

Re: 2011 - 5k/10k/21k Speed Challenges

Decided today that I am definitely, without a doubt, for sure, resting and not racing the rest of the year. Mid December sees the start of bike base building for 2011 and probably an assault on the 21.1k sub-90 at the Grimsby HM late February. hmmm, yah ok, sure good call. Hey, did you see there is...

Re: Fall Classic Half-Marathon, November 21

Considering how long it took me to break 1:50, I am happy that I could do it yesterday with a less-than-perfect race. It has become my new base-line time now. Perfect mindset: simply repeating a PB-type time is often more satisfying than getting it in the first place. Exactly, this was my thought t...

Re: Doonst does not get a PB at the Hannukah Hustle 10 K

Good to see you out there Sheldon; tough day but a good tempo run - and an AG placement too, so not all bad. ;) It seems the 5k Masters winner was in my AG as well, so he was bumped up and that's how I ended up as winner. Anyway, call it a solid training run for the Egg Nog Jog, right? :)

You won't be sorry, and you won't regret it; enjoy the DOMS and feel them as a badge of courage in a race well run. Congrats on the AG placement too, sweet! :D

Mark's first AG win! - Hamilton 5k - Pic added

Two weeks ago I ran a marathon with 45,000 other runners, today I ran a 5k with around 400 other runners; what a difference a couple of weeks makes! The goal today was to try and get under 20min for the race. I did a solid warm up and had a chance to chat with Sheldon before his race started and the...

Re: 2011 - 5k/10k/21k Speed Challenges

No sub-20 today. Chip time was 19:46 but that must be wrong as Garmin time was 20:34. Tough course for a PB, made harder by a wicked strong wind; after the first downhill km I was either running into the wind or running uphill. Running uphill was easier! However, a PB by ~4sec which keeps my 2010 st...

Re: 2011 - 5k/10k/21k Speed Challenges

Question re the tempo run: how long do all of you build to in the tempo run? I used to think anything beyond 5 miles would be impossible. Now I'm thinking 6 miles might be doable as I get stronger....Looking for what others do. Thanks. I do mine a 2 x 20min @ tempo, i.e. LT pace within an up-to 16k...
