Re: Treadmill Accuracy question

So, if you set it at 10km/h, and you watch it for 5 minutes, and you're actually at 10.1km/h after all the calculations, you do it again at 5km/h to see if the same 10% variance exists. If it does, then you know the TM is 10% slow. (as an example randomly pulled out of my butt)... I'm not sure I ag...

Re: Treadmill Accuracy question

If you google around, you can find a method of "calibrating" your treadmill. It involves measuring the tread, marking it with a white line so you can see if go by, and then setting a speed, watching it and counting the number of times it goes by in a set time, then doing the math to figure...

Re: GPS Watches: Timex T5B501 vs. Garmin 205?

I have no need for a HR monitor either, but for 179 bucks (think it's less now) at Costco, it's worth the price. I just use the HR monitor so that after a run I can say HUH, that's interesting... just track it for fun. But if later you want to use the HR monitor for a purpose, you already have it.

Kids Races

Are there any kids races around Calgary that I could get my soon to be 6 year old son into?

I know there are things like the Calgary Marathon that has a kids marathon, but I am looking for something that would just be a quick race for him to do on a race day.

Re: How do you use heart rate information (if at all)?

I have the 305, only because at the time it was on sales for $20 cheaper than the 205. I use the HR monitor just to track it for interest sake. I upload all my data to SportTracks and then once in a while look at am my average HR per event over the entire time. I am usually seeing a steady decline i...

Calgary Marathon 2010

Did anyone notice that it's not HSBC anymore, this year it will be the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon... new sponsor for the Half too... last year it was Jeep, (I think) and this year it's Centaur Subaru.

I am only doing the Half again this year, and putting off my Full until 2011

My brother-in-law and I signed up for this over the holidays. Looks like it will be a ton of fun.

Anyone else competed in one yet, or know someone and can share their experiences?

Re: Installing aerodrink bottle

My bottle has a black cap over the big hole with a rubber seal with flaps (like the kind of valves we have in our hearts). Is this a new thing that I use instead of the sponge or do I take it out and use the sponge instead? Thanks everyone for your patient responses to my silly questions. I think t...

Vaseline - precursor to Body Glide. Some races still give out vaseline. A couple years ago at the Calgary marathon, one of the medical aid stations at about Mile 20 was giving out vaseline on tongue depressors. One woman in front of me takes it and eats it, thinking it was a novel way of handing ou...

I track infrequently, but consistently (i.e. I track for 2-3 days in a row every 2-3 weeks to make sure I stay on track). It keeps me on track in that I'm making conscious food choices in between tracking, and I find that I'm eating a small breakfast, a small morning snack, lunch, small afternoon s...

Re: and so it begins ...

I've been using my gallbladder issues to not run lately, but I think I need to just suck it up and run.. oh and since we're in Calgary and it's -27 (without the windchill) I'll run on the treadmill too tonight...

thanks for that little boost, if one person can run, so can I.
