Re: CMMH Loves the First Half

P.s. Another thing I just realized- you must have set a 10k PB in the second half of the race. Wowzers. :) 10K PB is 48:20 - the second half would have been pretty close  Assuming that you ran one even pace for the first half (54 min/10k) and then stepped it up to a faster even pace for the ...

Hope to see you there in Boston 2016.
If my math is right, she was around 5:45 faster for the second half of the race. Ought and ought does add up to ought, right?

ETA: about 33 secs/km faster.

I ran 11.5 km last night in -20-something with a wind. Only the 2nd run in February due to various other things going on, good to get back out again.

Re: balaclava - recommendation?

I have a Gordini Lavawool balaclava similar to this one. The thing I like about it is that it has both the opening for the nostrils and the opening for the mouth. I have another one that has the mouth opening only and it is annoying. The Gordini comes in 3 different sizes.

2/3 groundhogs predicted 6 more weeks of winter today. I'd take that in a heartbeat. If we're ever done winter in mid-March in Saskatchewan I'll know the planet is truly hooped from climate change...

Heading out after work for something middling, 12 k or so.

Paula Radcliffe famously stopped for a poo in front of God and everybody and went on to set a time that still stands as the third-best marathon by a woman.

Re: Slippery Saturday

Glazed crust over packed snow, plus lots of puddles and slush - should have kept my screw shoes, they would have been perfect. 10 km and a filthy, filthy dog to throw in the tub afterwards.

My wife and I walked the 2 km home at 1 am after the new year's party, and then the same 2 km back to pick up the car around noon. I reckon that counts :).

Astigmatism is usually not that big a deal other than making the contacts more expensive. I wear Toric lenses for astigmatism. Wouldn't wear them swimming though.

Grimskot, I wear progressives too. But I wear contacts for sports only so no requirement for reading. Similarly my prescription sunglasses are single vision.

Re: Sunglasses on top of prescription glasses?

Prescription sunglasses? You can get them in a lightweight frame better suited to running.

I always wear contacts for winter running anyway, too much fogging with glasses especially when it's cold and I have to wear a balaclava.

Bear in mind that most beginner half plans top out around 18 km for the long run. I would be more concerned about being recovered from your injuries before ramping things up.

Re: Removal of certain T&F events from Olympics?

That's my understanding - how the IAAF has separate records for 10000m (track) vs. 10k (road). But I also cringe at saying something like "10000m isn't the same thing as 10k". That's my understanding too, track vs road. Wouldn't you agree that 25 laps around a track is a fair bit differen...
