Re: 2012 Boston Marathon Tracking Thread

Just a quick update - I will make a full report when I get homw. That was such a humbling experience - a PW by about an hour. The heat, which was brutal, was definitely an important factor but I also ended up walking most of the last 5 miles due to my hamstring saying that it had had enough of this ...

Re: What No Boston Marathon Thread?

Have decided to go ahead and run this but at a much slower pace. Dependng how things go, I'll regroup and do another marathon in a few weeks so as to take advantage of the training I have been doing. Looking forward to meeting up with the other Maniacs who also have decided to go.

Re: What No Boston Marathon Thread?

I am currently leaning to run this much easier than normal and go for time in a later marathon. If I can manage to get under 4 hours that should easily be enough for me to qualify for next year if I should decide to do Boston again.

Re: What No Boston Marathon Thread?

Thanks for the link Spirit. Am currently discussing options with other runners and it is good to read a science based article. Not that this is going to be easy but that it is perhaps not as dangerous as some people are implying provided you take care. I have always struggled running in hot weather ...

Re: Race Kit Pickup Saturday

Did a final 6+km shake out run before the race on Monday. Run went well with no issues. However, there is a lot of discussion amongst the runners I have met about the expected hot conditions and the BAA's advice not to run unless you are very fit. Interesting times to say the least. Personal...

Re: What No Boston Marathon Thread?

One good thing about the warm forecast is that I will take it much easier than I planned which is probably better for my leg. I can't think of too many other positives except perhaps even more spectator support. However, despite everything, it is great to be back here again. :D

A relaxed 6km planned for this morning before heading to the Boston Marathon Expo. :D Not looking forward to the hot conditions on Monday though, I have always struggled in such conditions. :(

Have a great day everybody.

JB, that is a real shame, both the injury and missing Boston this year. :( Take care, heal up quickly and get back into the swing of things soon.

Re: Tuesday

The ironic thing is that during this training cycle I did more of the "right" things than usual, like doing more distance at an easier pace. The biggest exception to that was ATB, but then I cut back after that race, so it's just plain weird. And my knee would also be the last place I'd e...

Re: Finish Line crowd for 3rd Wave finishers- Boston

DH and I have gone over the map. I think he's going to try to get to the Boyleston/Heresford area. Our hotel is VERY close to the finish though, so our plan is for him to get as close to the finish as he can, then he can scoot over to the family meeting area. Otherwise it's meeting back at the hote...

Re: Easter Monday

Thank you, everyone, for all the sympathy and healing vibes. Much appreciated. While I don't want to be defeatist, I also want to be realistic, and let's be honest: in the big picture of my life, missing Boston 2012 would not be the end of the world. I have been lucky enough to run the race twice a...

Had to do something so did some core and stretching exercises this morning followed a bit later by 30 minutes of stairs in a nearby park. Even if it wasn't smart, I feel a whole lot happier. :D

Got 4kms in this morning before I had to stop when my hamstring started playing up again out of nowhere. Now I am not so sure about Boston. :( To put it mildly, am not the happiest person at the moment. :x

Re: What No Boston Marathon Thread?

Good points about the shoes and the duct tape / duffel bag. Will try and remember those this year.

I actually managed to meet up with DW in the family meeting place last year although it took me a long time to get there. The main hold up was getting my bag from the bus.

Did 13.3kms this morning with 3X1600m thrown in. These were supposed to be at 5k pace but, as usual, I was not able to hit that. :( Overall average pace was 5:23/km.
