Re: Travellin' Friday
Good luck to all of you in Chicago and Victoria this weekend! I hope to meet some of you at a race one day soon. Meanwhile, I keep pluggin' away here in soggy Québec. Did 38 minutes of running today, with just one-and-a-half minutes of walking. It was windy and cold. Tomorrow, I go shopping for new ...

Re: Where's Wednesday?
After yesterday's sucky run (my calf muscles hurt, in fact I hurt from my butt to the bottoms of my feet), I wasn't expecting much today... But it was "Avis running weather," which is 10-15 degrees and lightly raining today. Made my whole 35 minutes of continuous running with some energy t...

A slow but not so easy 35 minutes run today. Cool weather, but beautiful...guess I'll have invest in some running tights soon. Will need new running shoes, too. I've just about worn out my first and only pair!

I saw on your profile that you're from Sherbrooke. My boyfriend is from Sherbrooke. :D A special welcome to you! Thanks, yeah I added that to my profile just in case anyone was in the area. Hull is a long way to come see him isn't it? He doesn't live in Sherbrooke anymore. We both live in Hull how....

Re: Claiming Friday
Deluge-like rain continued this morning--the kind that floods basement and ruins pianos :( . Wasn't going out in that, was going to do my inside exercise routine (step workout involving actual basement stairs, plus some misc.crunches, etc.) Rain lightened around noon, so out I went. Why is it my bes...

A rest day for me, and it's just as well with the pouring rain we've had. Spent the time building an ark.

I didn't lose my butt - it just kinda sank. :? Gosh, I hope you won't be offended if I say that made me laugh out loud. Sorry! So, I'm a short boney rectangle, just wonderful. :?    Well, my butt will be the last to go, that will be the day! I hear you on the shrinking boobs, t...

Re: Pumpkin Pie
I LOVE pumpkin pie! It's true that home-cooked squash or pumpkin taste better than the canned (BTW, canned "pumpkin" may be any kind of yellow winter squash, so don't feel like you have to wrestle with a 5 kilo pumpkin!). And the best way to cook the squash/pumpkin is to roast it dry in th...

Did about 36 minutes today, 25 of it continuous. Pretty good, considering it was a third day of running in a row for me--I usually do two on, one off. P.S. TM running is something else I haven't done. They tried to put me on a TM at the running shoe store and I all but fell off! Not really ea...

Re: 30 minutes--now what?
Thanks for the sensible advice. I think I kind of found myself thinking along these same lines in the 24 hours since I posted my question. I think there is a way to vary my runs a little without forcing too hard. Sometimes, it just feels good to run a bit faster, for a little while. That's when I do...

Re: 30 minutes--now what?
i am very new to this but here is my 2 cents i am a slow runner but i run contiuously, with no walk breaks, the first ten minutes or so are uncomfortable as i warm up legs and lungs to walk is to go real slow, i tried running faster and frankly it made me breathe way to sharply and made my legs fee...

30 minutes--now what?
OK, as previously written, I've recently reached my first goal of running for 30 minutes continuously. My next goal is to run a 5k. Here's my dilemma: If I combine running and walking, I actually cover ground more quickly than if I run straight through. This means, that to keep running for thirty mi...

Almost made 30 minutes continuous running today. Tired. Too much "cross training" with a garden spade and 10-kg sacks of compost over the weekend!

My favourite snack at my desk in the afternoon - celery with PB. Sounds kind of gross but tastes really good.
If you put some raisins on top of the peanut butter, you have "ants on a log," which sounds even more disgusting, but is quite tasty. Kids like this snack, too.

Did another 30 minutes straight running today. (Actually 32 minutes--did an extra trip around the block.) I am geting faster--that block used to take 3 minutes, now only 2.5. Lovely weather today--15 degrees and the lightest ghost of a rain. Funny how my definition of "lovely weather" has ...

Here's my first "thread " entry, before I go out and pick tomatoes. Did my 30 minutes continuous, and feel great not tired. Can't ALWAYS do the 30 minutes, just yet. About 1 out of 3 times. Tuesday I ran 50 minutes, but the last half had some walking in it. Still, any kind of 50 minutes is...

Welcome to RM! You will find lots of good advice, good humour, and support and encouragement here. I don't know how to put a quote into this, but the thing about running only on the treadmill or at night gave me a chuckle. When I started, I didn't want anyone to see me either--I did laps around the fenced-in back yard for the first few weeks!

Re: It takes more than a year to truly get into exercising:Study
As I wrote in the beginner's forum, I have been learning to run for about 10 months. I agree with this study, and it explains, somewhat, why I've hung in there, and also why I still don' feel like a "runner". I didn't start running to be a runner, I started running to get moving. Also, I d...

Really beginning
Hi, from a true newbie! No one on this site seems to have begun at as basic a level as I did, 10 months ago. I'm well into middle age and NEVER ran in my life. I began running 20 paces, then walking 20 paces, which I could only endure for 20 breathless minutes. I started because I didn't want to go o...
