Re: 2014: Plans, Hopes and Aspirations

I've revised my spring plan a bit. It now includes:
Seaton 25k
Sulphur Springs 25k (was going to be 50k but I'm not ready)
Creemore Vertical Challenge 50k

I'm registered for Seaton.

Re: Ottawa to Toronto run.

What an awesome challenge!! :) Well, my cousin's a doctor and he keeps reminding me that the original 'inventor' of jogging was a U.S. doctor who collapsed and died of cardiac failure while jogging. Jim Fixx was genentically predisposed to an early death. He was overweight and a smoker into his thir...

Teacher missing after run

I checked marathonguide.com

There's a 49 year old Jeffrey Boucher in the 2010 Chicago Marathon results. That matches up.

Re: Lisa P's Hamilton Adventure

Way to go. That was an awesomely paced race. :)

One thing that I have been making a habit of doing in races is calling out what I need at aid stations. I figure the kids know what they have and sometimes are just tired of yelling.

Am I ready? Not for a stellar race. Upright and smiling is the goal. :)

You, on the other hand, are ready. :)

Re: STWM: My first (and last?) full marathon

Congratulations! I'll add to the unsolicited advice. :) Concentrate on you recovery and what you enjoyed about the journey. It's okay to not like the distance. I ran my first marathon in mid 2000, my second in early 2002 and then focused on other things until 2008 when the marathon and I had another...

Gpscity.ca has a good tool for comparing the features available on various models. They also have pretty good prices.

Re: running bra too big??

Wow, I guess I do need a proper fitting for a running bra. I couple of years ago, I realized I wasn't wearing the right size for my regular bra. I first thought there was no way I was a D cup. But who wants your girls spilling out the sides and over the top. I thing I will go to Running Free in Mar...

running bra too big??

JSmitty wrote: Sometimes the elastic feels like it is moving away from the skin.

That sounds like the band might be too big? Maybe try a 34 band (you might have to go up a cup size when you do this).

My bras are pretty snug. I got a bit of chafing the other day, but that was approaching the 3.5 hour mark.

Re: Coconut Water/long run prep

In cooler weather, I'll run up to an hour and a half without liquid. This likely isn't ideal, but it is what works for me. Once I'm over that distance, I'll carry carry water as well as Lara bars or gels or nuts and seeds bars, depending on what is in my stash when I start my run. I eat a light brea...

Bike Shop Advice

I've had work done at both Racer Sportif and Wheels on Bloor and the service was fine. I wasn't a newbie though. I went into Browns only once. I asked for chain cleaner and was told they didn't sell any (its more of a sports store than bike shop). I never went back. YMMV. Edit: LaBicicletta actually...

Bike Shop Advice

Re: Chain Reaction, I've been there and they are decent. I had a bit of a run in with a tech once, but I complained and the manager dealt with it. In Bloor West there is also Racer Sportif and Wheels on Bloor. A bit further in there is La Bicicletta. I would hit all these before treking to Endurospo...

Pool triathlon- what to wear?

What style of sports bra do you wear? Can you swim in it and your tri shorts then add a top in transition?

Wearing an extra top on a non wetsuit swim will add drag.

I love the *idea* of run commuting but we don't have a shower at my office (and even if we did, I'd have to get there early enough to do shower, hair, make-up, the whole works... and somehow transport my clothes... and laptop.... lol. Run-commuting

Picked up an Osprey back pack on the weekend. I've brought some toiletries and a towel to work. Will leave them here today. So, I'll just have to bring clean clothes, keys, wallet tomorrow. It is not the backpack I was looking for, but it seems like it will do. I was thinking about your towel (or t...
