I admit to being curious as well! Although I'm not even logging any laps in the pool lately.

CONGRATS! Try goggles. I was damn near going blind swimming in a pool, and bought a pair of goggles for about $15 at SportChek. They're brilliant! Except I've only used them once and haven't swam since.

I'm more than likely doing the full, driving up early from here unless I find a place to crash the night before. All depends on my leg, but 99% sure I'm going. Either the full or the half. If you decide to do the half, I'll likely try to pace you. I'm a tad competitive with a buddy of mine who has ...

It is okay to take a bit of time off and try different things for a bit. Go for a bike ride, go for a swim, take a yoga class ... 8) Go for a run in the woods without any gadgets. Let yourself just run for fun. When everything is a competition, either against someone else, yourself, the clock, what...

Never Mind...I checked out the website. You guys can all park here as Bernice McNaughton school is a little warm-up walk/run away. And the route goes right by the top of my street both start and finish. I'd love to have a little post event gathering at our place too...even though Scotty will be awa...

Re: Marathon & Tri Training - Is It Possible To Do Both?

I'd like to do my first tris this coming summer (ideally 2 sprint tris and if all goes well an Oly tri at the end of the season) but also plan on racing a spring marathon in May. Is it possible to train for both without killing myself? I say yes! In my opinion. I'm a somewhat "serious" mountain bik...

Moncton "Legs for Literacy" Kit info

Not sure how many other Maniacs are travelling to Moncton for this race, but I was asking the organizer about race kit pickup, as the email I got says they can only be picked up on the Friday and Saturday before in Moncton. Race day pickup is available. It will not be possible to do pick up in Halif...

It would be wonderful if Titanium were available to us mere mortals with regular bank accounts. My understanding is that Ti bikes have to be handmade, the robots used in the factories can't work with such a "delicate" material effectively yet.

My Road Racer ;-)

So I don't have a proper road bike yet. Nor do I even have an improper road bike. So my road riding is all done with my mountain bike (pictured below). No city slicks, not locking out the suspension, not dialing down the front travel... I ride the road like I ride the trail, knobby tires and all. :-...

How to buy a mountain bike

First step: decide on your price range. Second step: go to your local bike shop (LBS) and test ride EVERYTHING in your range. Think you like one? Ride it in a couple of available sizes. Third step: buy what feels good. :-D When I bought my last bike, I rode several bikes from Avanti, Giant, and Spec...

650c vs 700c

The 700c wheels are more efficient, supposedly. For the very new riders, 700c wheels can be more difficult to get balance on, again not sure why. But, these are things I overheard while working in a bike shop. :-) As for the cranks... go with what works. I have limited road biking experience, but I ...

Power meters are supposedly awesome training tools, but at $400 USD, it's still well out of my price range! That's money that could be better spent on new rims. :)

Rum Runners Relay - Leg 3 (11.4 km)

I'm sitting back and enjoying my supper when COTR asks, "Want to join our relay team this weekend? I think we're still looking for a replacement runner." I gave it a second or two thought and replied, "What the hell, sure!" As the handle suggests, running is not my primary love. Actually, I don't lo...
