Re: Winter bike storage
Only if you hang it. Better to leave them inflated if the bike is still on its wheels. Better yet, store it on the trainer

Re: Food poisoning before a long run.
Do the run, it's not like you're injured.
Stay well hydrated and make sure to take in plenty of electrolytes between now and the run and just have at it.

Re: Half Ironman Training Plan
I'm not a big advocate of a need for paid coaching for regular AG athletes (though if I was on the bubble for a Kona slot I might reconsider), but wouldn't criticize those that are - it's a personal thing. A coach can also provide some measure of external accountability which many find helpful too. ...

Re: Half Ironman Training Plan
Hello everyone! I am registered for my first Half Ironman (Great White North) next July. I have been looking online for training programs and there seem to be so many out there. Thought I would ask you guys that have done this distance what training plan you have followed and any tips etc. Thank yo...

Re: How to Stay Focused When You Get Bored Working Toward Go
I don't think he's saying anything remarkable at all. You either keep your eye on the goal or you don't; passion or whatever else it might be called is certainly the motivator that gets one past the boredom - who voluntarily gets bored without a reason? That reason is the passion/focus/determinatio...

Re: Pace clock or watch in the pool?
Wait, people using watches are hitting the lap buttons? Oy....as a pace clock user, that just seems foreign to me. Yeah; on the rare occasions I swim in the pool I use the watch as a pace clock - just start it at the beginning of the set and glance at it at the end of the lap and start the next lap...

Re: Pace clock or watch in the pool?
Anyway- besides personal preferences can anyone explain to me why there is some better training benefit from using the pace clock? There is no training benefit whatsoever in using a pace clock over a watch - it's just pool snobbery. Interesting point. 15 replies and some strong opinions but nobody ...

Well done. Making the right decision at the right time is, as Ian said, the hallmark of an experienced and disciplined racer. You got a nice result from a well executed race.

Re: Speed, or endurance what's more beneficial to focus on?
I'd concentrate on the bike. Sure there's a run in an IM but it's bike fitness that's going to get you around the course, not run fitness. Run two or three times a week following a plan like Michael suggests. Ride as much as you can though, at least three times a week, four if you can fit it in. Do ...

Re: Ironman Mt Tremblant
Thanks for the info. IMMT was (though a trip to Canada next August isn't beyond the realm of possibility) on my list of to-do's and it's good to have positive reference on it - especially as we've both done IMC so the comparison holds a lot of validity.

Great report and nice result! BTW, I was trying to figure out how you could do 11h 54min for the race with a swim in the 1h50's so I looked at the official results and saw you've made a small typo in your race report. ;) 12 :54!!! Oops! :). That's one way to cut an hour off your ironman time lol. 2...

Willpower?
A handful of nuts and a big glass of water.
A piece of fruit.
Another glass of water.
Mostly willpower.

Re: Ironman messes with everything
Every time they add an Ironman they dilute the brand and make it a little less special. I'm not sure I buy that argument at all. Does the Apple brand become more diluted with every product release? No, but events are different than electronics. When your favourite band comes to town, it's a special...

Re: Runjrun's Leduc Triathlon
Great result and I enjoyed the report. I guess that will come with other struggles like being kicked in the head, lol. The risk of this is generally vastly overstated; you can position and seed yourself to have clear water for 100% of the swim if you want to. Even in the pack, in all my races I've o...

Re: Every time I think I am out ...
I thinks more that sports reveal character flaws rather than character per se. Without taking in to account motivation, it's too broad a judgement to say that a person who doesn't qualify for Boston, to pick an example, doesn't have the determination or didn't bare down enough to get it. They simply...
