Re: Shuffling with Santa in Sherbrooke

Silly question I know I know, but AVIS, are you a he or a she (I realize it may have been mentioned elsewhere). Its just when I read posts I read them in my mind with a male or a female voice depending on the poster.... Not silly at all--I've been mistaken about the gender I've assumed for certain ...

Re: Tuesday Winter Wonderland

Didn't end up going to yoga or doing anything yesterday, the cold wiped me out and I ended up going to bed early and watching chick flicks. :? Sorry to hear about your miserable cold, Sandra. I almost wish I had that excuse! The durn plow finally passed by our streets, so the running should ...

Re: Shuffling with Santa in Sherbrooke

And I am inexplicably happy, grinning-from-ear-to-ear happy. I feel happier than any of the winners, happier than I have reason to be. I beam for the rest of the day. I’m still beaming now! I plan to run the Santa Shuffle next year. I will probably run it faster. I challenge myself to do it happier...

Sounds like you had fun and almost hurled ;) don't worry, you'll have another chance too. Well done!  Can't wait to hurl! I guess I was pretty close...but the feeling passed pretty quickly. Seriously, though, I wish I'd thought to take my pulse right at the end...if ever there was a time...

Re: Monday: 4th last to the New Year!

First really wintery run of the season. There are days when running in winter are delightful. This was not one of them... Wind blowing snow directly into my lungs, slogging along through loose snow on top of ankle-twisting ice ruts...Only managed 20 minutes of this, then switched to cross-training w...

Shuffling with Santa in Sherbrooke

This year’s Santa Shuffle was Sherbrooke’s first. The 5k race, Sponsored by The Running Room (Le coin des coureurs), benefiting The Salvation Army, was also my very first race. My excitement colours my impressions of the event; forgive me if I carry on and on. I woke up to find that about 5 cm of sn...

Doing the Santa Shuffle with DH tomorrow! :D Lisa The Santa Shuffle for me, too, tomorrow! Just a light run for me today, enough to keep loose and to let me do some good stretching. My FIRST race--I'm getting nervous. At least the adrenaline will serve me well, not like when I used to have my violi...

Re: Monday Grey Cup Hangover

Yesterday's run was the first of the season on slush, ice, snow and puddles. I wore my studded rubbers  , so I didn't slip, but it was heavy going. Today, one of my feet hurts, in a weird way, on the side. If it feels better later, I may go out for a light run later. The sun is out now and ...

Yes, hockey rink roads today. It's a rest day for me, but if it weren't, I'd have to break out my studs again. Ugh.

A rather slow and tired 7k for me today, but at least I ran the whole way. It was -9 and gosh, my butinski was cold the whole time--gotta get me some of them Bum Warmers or whatever they're called.

Re: Newbie Runner ? - indoor treadmill training vs. outside ?

For what it's worth, I'm a new runner, too. I started from scratch a year ago and will do my first 5k next weekend (whoo-hoo!) I did all of my running outdoors from the beginning, rain, snow, or sun. I don't have easy access to a TM, and that may be the main reason I started outside running. If you ...

Re: Don't you just love it when......

If it's a really good running day, I can get that feeling on the suburban streets of Sherbrooke...a state of mind, more than surroundings. I remember once I was all blissed out over a squirrel in a bare tree.

It must feel good, at least to have a good diagnosis? I thought of the rowing machine idea last night, but I see someone else beat me to it telling you. However, (I've never used a rowing machine, so I'm picturing the motion in my mind's eye) does even a rowing machine seem to cause some flexion of ...

Re: Wickedly Windy Wednesday

A brisk (in more than one sense) run this morning. Managed to trim 2 minutes off my usual 6k time, even with a 30k/h wind in my face half the way. And will somebody tell me why my hands and head, which do nothing when I run, get so hot , while my fanny, which is presumably doing at least some of the...

Gotta take a rest day today--three days of running in a row is my limit. I must be doing something right, when my logical mind says I had better take a rest day, but my spirit wants to go run. :)

Re: Runningmania Gear - buy it here

Are the Runningmania patches the fabric-type patches that you sew on, or the decal-type sticker patches? I'm interested if they are the sew-on type. Also, is the Runningmania logo copyrighted? That is, given that there is not much "official" Runningmania gear left, are we allowed to create...

No freezing rain here, thank goodness it's all going to the north and west of here. Gloomy day for a run, though. Did a slow 6k in 40 minutes...I'm trying to build endurance rather than speed right now, but boy, it sure feels good to stretch out my legs and take some longer strides now and then!

Re: Sun - day

Under the cool, hazy November sunshine, I had a really fine run. 50 minutes with a little faster running now and then. I think I was fueled by the poutine and burger I had from "Louis" last night. (All that discussion about poutine in the Food and Nutrition section got to me. But boy! Was ...

Re: Double-Double-Down: Poutine

In Sherbrooke, real poutine is just fries, cheese curds (the squeekier, the better) and brown gravy. Other additions are just that--additions, not part of the basic authentic poutine.

Joe, thanks for taking care of the hacker problem...what a pain in the a**! Ran a good 41 minutes today, nice and easy. No calf cramps since I went back to my old shoes. Then I went to Le Coureur and bought another pair just like my good old ones--hope to get them broken in in time for The Santa Shu...
