BTW, I don't think running a marathon because of ego is a bad thing either. Ego drives us all in some form no matter what we do. If ego is the motivator to get someone off the couch, then great.

Another thing I like about going longer: When I stand at the start line of a marathon, I get this warm fuzzy feeling of community. 95% of the people around me have made it a priority in their lives to get to this start line, and have gone through the things I've gone through.
