Re: Summer Training Schedule

I had decided not to sign up based on what my trainer said. I think any sort of hard contact martial arts, meaning pretty much what most people think of as martial arts, is a pretty tough row to hoe starting at 51. It's different when you've been doing it for a long time. Also as a path to fitness,...

Re: Summer Training Schedule

aren't most martial arts injury-prone anyway? Really depends on the martial art, the dojo/school, how serious you are, etc etc. Kendo is my main thing and I"ve been pretty much injury free for the 27 years I've been involved, or at least never hurt enough to skip a practice or work. The odd bl...

There are injury issues with Krav Maga regardless of what else you are doing.

Re: Summer Training Schedule

Although, the sport that I left when I got serious with this running thing was Karate / Martial Arts about 8+ years ago ... After almost tearing my ACL, in sparring, where the other person had no control in his kicking ... and, never really made it back ... and, haven't had any regrets ever since ....

Re: HM Prep using RVM program

Welcome here, btw. Are you targeting Victoria or a different half? Thanks for the advice and the welcome! I'm looking to do the River Run Classic in Saskatoon. My sister is trying to talk me into joining her at the Queen City Marathon in Regina a month later for another HM, but that's probably push...

Re: HM Prep using RVM program

I'm just starting to poke into all this vdot table stuff, which I'm sure is old hat to everybody here. So maybe less posting and more reading for me. But anyways, according to this calculator where 75% of max HR is supposed to be the easy pace, 6:05 easy pace translates to a little over 5 minutes HM...

Re: HM Prep using RVM program

Thanks! The RVM program recommends 30-40 seconds/km slower than race pace for the easy runs, which is where I'm at. But I think a little slower probably wouldn't hurt. ETA: backed off to 75% of max on tonight's run, pace was 6:05, 8K total distance. Seems more in line with the assorted charts but th...

Re: HM Prep using RVM program

I don't know how you got your max heart rate Ran 5K at typical training pace, then sprinted til my legs gave out and had a look at the max registered on the HRM. Repeated it on two different days with the same result. but 80% of max might be too fast to be aerobic for many people-- you might be pus...

HM Prep using RVM program

Hi, all. First post for me. I'm currently training for my first HM using the RVM "Just In Time" program. Most of the runs are what they term "aerobic" rather than the easier runs that seem to be recommended in other programs. Any thoughts on this program? So far so good for me bu...
