Geez..you guys are quite the pair.. the Hay is in the barn & Fake it??? Well, that's very helpful. TX. LOL.
I guess I'll wait to see what my other Maniacs have to offer. LA, Kinga, BJH, Lesley, Jill...you guys will be the voice of reason for sure. LOL
Ok "VOICE of REASON" here. Take it slow and easy for the first 2 km. Everyone will likely start too fast so try not to get caught up in it. Also break it down to 5 km intervals and have a slightly faster time target for each subsequent leg. ( The last 1.1 km will look after itself.. ) Don't sweat the hills - for every uphill, there is a downhill and the race finishes on a gentle downhill before the last little bit in the gold course road. Relax and enjoy the experience!!!
Good luck!

Hey, your 2:08 sounds pretty close to what I'd like to run. Wanna run with me?
Hi Lesley,
I just saw this now - sorry. I'm theoretically hoping to run a bit faster than 2:08, but as I mentioned I've not trained well for this so that may not happen. We could start out together and see how we feel. If we decide to split up that would be fine I assume?

Fine with me. We all have to run our own race. I'll likely know within the first 5K or so what kind of day it's gonna be.

Annette:
Just wanted to let you know that I have not been seriously training for this half since my marathon at Scotia. I will be taking it easy and see what happens the last 6k as I have not run more than 15k since September. I will (for the record) probably aim for around 2:15.
As the others have said, take it slow to begin. You go through a residental area for (I think) around 4k and then back out to the main street. I have not followed your training or know of your running, but by the mention of other maniacs it sounds like you are well prepared, so enjoy. It is a very cool feeling to be running among other people who are faster and slower than you and the feeling is one that no-one can take away from you.
That's what I tell all the cynical people at work who think runners are crazy !!!!
PS. Also enjoy that fact that this race is almost a civilized way to run with a clubhouse to warm up in before and after the race.
Cheers

Annette, it is normal to be nervous, and scared. It's funny but I was just discussing my first half marathon with my friend Sandy the other day. She ran it with me and paced me. That was in 2000 at NCM. I remember being so excited, nervous, scared and nauseous all at once. I can laugh now about it, but it doesn't mean that I still don't get nervous or excited at the beginning of any race (just maybe not to the same intensity as my first time). That is all part of the race. Gotta get the adrenalin going.
I still look back on that period of anxiety, 6-1/2 years year later, as part of one of the defining moments in my life. A lot of people were surprised that I could go out and run 21K, myself included. I proved something to myself that day and I was proud. You will be nervous when the race starts -- it will be a good nervous. And at the end, when you come over the finish line, there is nothing like it!! You will be so PROUD of yourself. And as your fellow maniacs, we will be too. (I can't wait for YOUR race report!)

La, I have had to change my plans. I've switched to the 10K from the half, mainly because I've had NO time to run lately. I still have way to much going on, but I didn't want to miss out on the event completely, so I will attempt to run a blistering 10 K and then get right back at it. Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to run the half with you, which would have been a ton of fun.
I'll still look out for all the maniacs before and during the race!
awww Robert, there goes my chance to win the Maniac's division of the 10k...(of course I was the only Maniac doing 10k )
Looking forward to seeing you Sunday.

DG..here is the meeting spot we picked earlier in the week....
La wrote:
Inside the clubhouse there is a large room where most people will be gathered. I'll suggest that we meet up on the side of the room without windows, in the corner closest to the front entrance (there is a back entrance that most people will be coming in on their way from the parking lot). I hope that's clear enough.
I'm really looking forward to meeting more MANIACS tomorrow!!
Oops, thanks for that.........next time I'll read the entire thread.
