I think in other years they ran in a group and passed the torch one to another. So you ran further but did not carry the torch for the full length. I had thought they were going to do the same thing - like 3 people run 1KM and pass the torch every 1/3 of a km or something, but the don't. The object is suppose to be so as many as possible Canadians can participate. To be honest it sometimes appears to be a short run so as many promotional spots as possible can be done while still allowing enough participation from the general public (like me) to make it meaningful. For once I am really going to enjoy the fact that I am a SLOW runner! I want to enjoy every second I can!!!!

My final details:

Waterloo
Starting along: King St. North
From: Willis Way
To: House # 168
On: King St. North
6:24 PM EST
OTR059-144

While the email says that I will run approx. 300 metres, I mapped the distance at 1km!

I got my Torchbearer uniform and iCoke cheer kit yesterday. The uniform is much bigger than I thought it would be. At least I will have lots of room to wear warm gear underneath if it's cold. The mittens have a nice maple-leaf grip on the inside to make holding the torch easier (i hope). I ran around the house in my uniform last night while my kids laughed at me.

I don't know if my effort was too lax or I'm unlucky. I would have traveled near or far for this opportunity but was never chosen.

I'm so envious. I had entered the contest hoping to get tomorrow since it's here in Halifax tomorrow, and it's my birthday. But I didn't get picked.

There's an event here tomorrow night and a snowboarded is going to bring it down Citadel Hill, and Sydney Crosby will be running with it. I have plans with my family for dinner. I'm thinking of being a bad daughter and postponing dinner with my family so I can go to the ceremony.

Probably just luck Marg. I can't say I put a lot of brain damage into my application so i am likely just lucky. In fact I applied via Coke and RBC. When I think back I never did get a confirmation from Coke so likely my application got screwed up somehow or else their reply ended up in a spam filter somewhere.

And after the run I will just keep right on to Bushtukah and ask for an OTR discount LOL

Thanks! I will tell anyone who wants to see it but who is not up to standing around to go eat at The Works!!!!

Just back from a conference in Toronto where I picked up 11 pairs of olympic mitts! You can not get them locally and every day at the end of conference I'd find emails that said "I heard you found ..." Half my suitcase was mitties! But they will all be on the hands of my family and friends come the 12th of December!!!

My crystal ball sees a shopping trip to Lulu and Bushtukah for Marg on Dec 12. Maybe even a beer in Whispers? Better than going way up the valley.....

Sadly if I read Ceileigh's info correctly, she will be running along Richmond at 6pm - the time at which I will be leaving for the hockey game. Oh what a disappointment. :(

The rules say you can not change however icoke called and asked if I would. They told me that the person I was replacing was jewish and Saturday is both sabbath and Hannukah. The person had asked if he could change as he could not run on the Saturday. She said they had called and called and no one would change. For me Ottawa is an hour closer to home so I don't mind.

For people who have already run with the torch, do you know if the uniform is wick-a-way type of material? I can't tell from mine as I don't want to run in it before I do my 300 m. It also came with no tags indicating one way or another.

I am curious because if it is wick-a-way I wouldn't mind using the jacket and pants for running.

BTW, was the torch heavy?

what I'd like is to be able to replay the live torch coverage so i could see myself when I get home. It looks like this feature may be available via twitter but I don't have twitter. Does anyone know if you can see 'old' footage on twitter?

I can't tell if the outfit wicks or not but my suspicion is not.

Last night the torch made its way through Fredericton. I wasn't lucky enough to be selected as a torchbearer but just being alongside the route was way more of a thrill than I ever imagined it would be. I was close enough to feel the heat from the flame as it passed by!! Also had a chance to get my pic taken holding a torch that a runner I met had carried earlier in the day. Very cool.
2009 Goals:

UNB Indoor Tri (Feb)
Fredericton Race Weekend (May)
"Blind Guys Tri Team" @ Joe's Team Sprint Tri, Muskoka, Ont. (July)
Lobsterman Oly Tri, Freeport ME. (Sept)

We are going to do the torch thing here, since it is coming so close (CFB Petawawa) and we can't hang out in O-town too long, cuz Raven will need to do some business and I don't want it done in the livingroom.
