I did a count a couple of days ago. I estimate that 4400 out of the 7000 spots were filled. The price goes up Feb 01, so that will spur people on to sign up. Maybe the next 2 weeks should be safe. Then again I missed Boston this year by saying the same thing.

Quick question - this race seems like one of the "must do's" of the Canadian running season. Is that the case? I'm moving over to Toronto around the end of this month, and the main race I am aiming towards is the Sulphur Springs 50 mile, with the 26k Seaton Trail as the warm up.

I am considering this one aswell, which will also work well as a long training run. Is it easy enough to get from Toronto downtown to Hamilton (and back!)?

It is a very popular and special road race. It should be easy enough to get there, there is "GO" bus service to near the start http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/schedule/lstserdt.aspx?table=16&station=

By transit? It's possible.

A car is easier. It's about an hour drive.

I suggest you might consider more than just "pencilling it" in if you're pretty sure you want to do it...it will likely sell out (it did last year...I think by the end of January)

It might be the one of the best road races in North America, 30k is a perfect distance for any long distance runner.

I love everything about this race, time of year (weather is perfect for going hard), distance (long enough to challenge but short enough not to wreck you), history (older then Boston), fan support, organization.
This will be my 5th year running it.

One week later and the estimate is 5300 spots filled out of 7000. That is for 30 K run and walk combined. Probably still around a week or two to go.

Do most people tend to stay in hamilton the night before, as you need to pick up the race number the day before (and its an early start)? If so, where's a good spot to put the head down - are the hotels/ motels on the website any use/ close to the start?

Yes...most out-of-towners do. I imagine the hotels listed on the website are close to the start...I also imagine many of them will be already booked....so try and book one ASAP.
