I do like the idea of meeting up on Sunday evening ... would be fun to hear all the stories.....

+1 to both of these!

I have to eat early and lightly on Sat! Like around 4:30.

Sunday is a pig fest though! I'm game for anything, anywhere (well where the food is good!)

Well by the time dinner is served and eaten it'll be more like 5:30 - and NOPE. Anything I eat after that will come back to haunt me.

I have this down to a science now, and I go to bed early and get up and eat early so I honestly don't starve. Oh and I do have the customary glass of wine with my pre race meal - Carbo loading you know!

Oh yeah. I see your question now. Yeah I just meant nothing later in the evening.

ALWAYS Oatmeal with a bit of brown sugar and coffee - perhaps a bananna.

I'll be packing some food with me.

September 1, 2010
WORLD MARATHON MAJORS LEADER LILIYA SHOBUKHOVA READY TO DEFEND TITLE AT 2010 BANK OF AMERICA CHICAGO MARATHON
The 2010 Bank of America Chicago Marathon today announced the addition of several elite women to its star-studded field currently headlined by defending champion Liliya Shobukhova of Russia and 2009 runner-up Irina Mikitenko of Germany. Like the men’s race, the 2009-2010 World Marathon Majors (WMM) series will likely be decided in Chicago with the highly anticipated rematch between top-ranked Shobukhova (60 points) and the defending WMM series champion Mikitenko, currently ranked second (40 points).

Will you be driving, Jill ?? If so, might be possible for you to park at our hotel parking lot, and walk to the start line   then you could always comeback and shower and change afterwards ...

Yes, we will have the car. Thanks for the thought, however do you mean on race morning? That would be a bit stressful not knowing what streets will be closed and I remember the traffic after the marathon last year.
However, the shower and change part would be good if we were going out with you guys after.
I am going to move this to the Chicago thread and out of Lisa's journal!!!
Cheers,
Jill

Either way ... that is, how you planning on getting down to the start/finish line? Pretty sure that the streets leading to the hotel will be open to traffic ... if you need to get there early enough, no worries, as well, as you can always crash at the hotel before heading down to the start line ...

Is parking covered in the cost of your accomodations?
Last year we went by subway with no issues.
We can certainly eat and drink after the marathon and still figure out the subway to get back to the B and B.
How close is everyone's accomodations who wants to meet after on Sunday?
Cheers,
Jill

I'm game for meeting after! I think the Travellodge is quite close to the start/finish. Right Andy?

If it were me, I'd be looking for public transit to get to the race and back to the B&B - but that's just me. You know better, because you did it last year.

Jill, you are welcome to use our shower/change facilities at the Travel Lodge!

The website says $28.00 for overnight parking ... :? but, nothing about daytime parking ...

From what I recall, we are within a 10-15 minute walk (max) to the start line

Anyhoo, invitation is still there if you need a place to hang out before/after the race and/or to drop off your stuff ....

At least, for us, staying at the hotel, there is an Express Shuttle from the Airport to the Hotel ..  :P and, Two Restaurants On-Site: Chicago Carry-Out (Fast Food) and Thai Spoon (Classic Pan-Asian Cuisine and Sushi Bar)

Start / Finish is in Grant Park, and from the map view from the hotel website ... and from Casual-Runner, definitely within walking distance ...

And, the hotel is very close to the Subway System, from what I can tell ... depending on which Line you take ... there is one at the corner of East Harrison, only couple of blocks from the hotel ...

What are the thoughts about the meaning of 'after'? Right after the race? Mid-afternoon?

Bingerunner and I are there with a group of people so we'd really want to see what the general consensus is with the group...half are not on RM. It will also depend on how people feel after the race. I think our plan is to wait for everyone in our group to finish, meander back to the hotel to eat, shower and crash for awhile so the racers can feel human again. We probably weren't considering emerging again until it was time to forage for dinner.

Greg and I are good with what the majority decides. The travel time really isn't that long for us from the B & B, so either time is good for us.
Though we could just get showered and travel from place to place!! That will help our recovery ( I think)!
Cheers,
Jill
