2011 Race Plans

Postby Jwolf » Tue Nov 16, 2010 9:34 am

Lots of threads are coming up about races for next year. Is it too early to think about 2011 race plans? Not for me. :)

What's everyone else thinking about?

I've decided not to let fees deter me this year. Running is my only real hobby, and I don't have any other expensive habits. :) (And we don't go on fancy vacations, etc.) So... (and Andy, you can STFU!! ;) )

Tentatively:

Jan 29: Steveston Ice Breaker 8K
Feb 13: First Half Half-Marathon (only one that I've registered for so far)
Mar 12: St. Patrick's 5K
Apr 2: Harry's Spring Run-off 8K (maybe on this one)
Apr 17: Vancouver Sun Run (a definite, but not sure if I'm racing or doing it with my kids)
May 1: BMO Vancouver (not sure what distance yet)

And depending how it goes until then, some or all of these:
May 29: Shawnessey 8K
Jun 12: Sandcastle 10K
Jun 26: Scotiabank Half
July 16: Summerfast 10K
Aug 14: Richmond Oval 10K

I won't think ahead to the fall yet... except that I registered for a marathon in November. 8)

Good lord no. Heck, I have race plans right now through spring/2012!

My plans are in my siggy.....I like to think of 2-3 big A goal races, and then throw in some tuneup ones, and a few for fun....

Though, the race fees really are intimidating me. I've spent an average of a few hundred $$ per month this year just on running related stuff - clothes, shoes, gadgets, nutrition.....yowsers......

It's not just the fees, but the travel costs for my A goal races too. Ouch. I've already had to pull back from some of my plans....I was going to do some 5K's for fun, but at $35-50 a pop (incl taxes and service fees), they were just too pricey for a distance I don't love.
Sandra...Air Force wife & Professional Kid Wrangler...I knit to stay sane, I run to eat!
2012 - year of perseverance, endurance, survival, and earning blackmail material for life. :D

I have a list saved on my computer of things I'd like to do, but will need to wait until official dates come out to decide. The ones that are already set for me are -

Jan 1 - Resolution Run (5K)
May - WPS 1/2 marathon (1st half!)
May - Fargo 5K, followed by walking the Fargo 1/2 marathon the next day (with my mom)

I want to do Dwayne's entire trail series this year (the 8K was fun, I'm annoyed with myself for missing the rest!) and will wait to see what dates and training look like before planning the rest.

2011 plans
Resolution Run - 48 min (walked...it was COLD!)
WPS Half Marathon - DNF, 1:20ish at 10.75km
Fargo 5K & 10K - 5K walked 48 something. 10K 1:13:55
Try a Trail series
And others TBD...

I've got the spring majors pencilled in.

Around the Bay 30K, March
Seaton Trail 27 K, April
Albion Hills 5 Peaks, April
Mississauga Half Marathon, May
Ottawa Marathon, May
next up:

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Got some tentative plans.

May 1- Vancouver Marathon (hopefully)
May 14- Mississauga 10K- couldn't pass up the cheap registration.
May 15- Mississauga 1/2 Marathon (running alongside Mrs McD for support on her first 1/2 marathon)

If Vancouver doesn't work out, then I'll plan on Ottawa.

For the fall, if I don't BQ in the spring, then I'll try again at PEC. If I do BQ, I might look at Haliburton, and be a pace bunny in PEC.

Plan on hitting the local races too- hopefully a few 5 & 10Ks, and would like to get a couple of 1/2 marathons too- I like racing those.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

Other than doing the Ottawa Marathon in may I do not have any set plans yet. I would like to do more of the local 5-10 km races than I did this year but have not looked into that yet.

If I don't BQ in May I will also look to run a fall marathon, possibly PEC again.
[b]2016 Races:[b]

January - Richmond Road Races 10 km 41:06
March - St Patrick's Day 10 km 41:31
April - Minto Run for Reach half-marathon 1:28:56
May - Sporting Life 10 km - 41:10
May - Ottawa Marathon - 3:26:37
September - Army Run

Half in the summer, full in the fall. Hopefully fast races for both. Maybe a triathlon, but I really want to run.

I only have two for sure: Chuckanut 50k in March, and White River 50 miler in July. Both are races I've run before, and loved, so I want to do them again. :) My goal will be to take an hour off of each.

I'd really love to run a spring 50-miler, but my plans are still up in the air and options are limited, and some race dates conflict with each other... so I'm still undecided on those.

And I'm still toying with the idea of doing a 100-miler in 2011... my ultranut ex-neighbour said he'll pay my entry to Cascade Crest, just to get me to do it. but I think I'll wait for 2012 on that. lots of time to change my mind before registration opens though!

Grimsby Half - Feb (sub 1:20 attempt)
ATB 30k - March (Gold - PB)
Toronto Marathon - May (2:49) (maybe a marathon anyway, not sure)

That's all I have for now, I still have 2 more major races this year to deal with first.

Hypothermic Half - Feb 13
Saskatoon Police Service Half - April 24
Saskatchewan Marathon (half) - May 29
River Run Classic (half) - Aug 14
Queen City Marathon (full) - Sep 11

QCM as my first marathon is the A race. I hope to work some shorter ones in there somewhere. The Saskatoon Roadrunners do 5 k races once a month at their Monday night speed workouts, maybe I'll join them.

lol. After I tell people I'm already busy on weekend x running a race they ask "how do you know you won't have any other plans that weekend?" to which I respond "Because I've already booked that weekend for my race." Then they just give me a blank stare as if I missed the point, when in reality, they missed the point.

but I digress....

Mar 27 - Around the Bay (Hamilton) - Booked already for the 2-Person Relay

Apr 2 - Harry Rosen 8k - Waiting for Acura to get figured out to book with CRS

May 1 - SportingLife 10k - Waiting for Acura to get figured out to book with CRS

May 14 - Mississauga Marathon 10k - for $5 ($15 - $10 gift card at RR), I'd be dumb not to. In hindsight though, I should have realized I might be ready for a Half by this time. but then there's always....

May 15 - Goodlife Half? (Not sure about this yet - by the looks of it, my training should have me at a level where I could)

Jul 10? - Acura 10-Miler - Hopefully CRS will get this figured out quick...

Aug 20 - Midsummer's Night Run - Heard it was a nice run. Definitiely want to check it out.

Oct 16 - Scotia TWM Full - This is what all the training is for....

Other notes...

- If the runway run goes on this year, I'm adding it to the list. It's not everyday you can run at an airport...
- Depending on where the Audi BestBuddies run falls, I might do it again.
- Definitely want to do Athens (2012 or later). I fell in love with greece a few years ago when I went island-hopping there and any excuse to go back is fine with me (especially running the original marathon)
- If I through some magical fluke qualify for Boston, I'll do it. If not, I'm not at the stage yet where I want to train hard enough to qualify.
- I don't think my swimming is anywhere near good enough for a tri, but a duathlon might be doable.

A couple of 10 k races between January and April
Boston marathon in April
Montreal half marathon in september
and the rest of the year, I will work on improving my 10k time (objective: bring it down to 55 minutes or better)
2011 will also be the year I decide if I want to continue running marathons (or if I can  )

Right now the schedule looks like this:

March 27 - Around the Bay
May 1 - Vancouver marathon
Nov (?) - New York City marathon

Maybe the Chilly Half.

Definitely a 5 Peaks trail race or two, but haven't even begun to think of which ones.

And other races will probably come up along the way. I wouldn't mind doing a half marathon at some point.
