Winnipeggers - WPS Half?

Postby gymnastgirly » Tue Apr 26, 2011 11:06 am

Who's running this weekend?

I'm still on the fence - I have the go-ahead from an AT to run with my foot taped, should I want to...it's feeling way better and should be okay by Sunday, but I'm going in way under-trained. At this point it'll be a "finish before they chase me off the course" goal rather than a time goal :D

Just wondering if I'll get to see any of you Maniacs this weekend!!

2011 plans
Resolution Run - 48 min (walked...it was COLD!)
WPS Half Marathon - DNF, 1:20ish at 10.75km
Fargo 5K & 10K - 5K walked 48 something. 10K 1:13:55
Try a Trail series
And others TBD...

I'll be there. No specific time goal, just see how I can do on race day.

Fine then .... You would rather cheer on the Winterpeggers this weekend, then come to Vancouver Hoopla and cheer for the rest of us ... :snooty: :snooty: :snooty: :shifty:

Is it possible to have a discussion or mention of a race that doesn't get hijacked into a discussion of Vancouver?

Are you just saying that because you have a soft spot for Winnipeg? It's hard to compete with Vancouver Hoopla & it's 40th aniversary celebations (and no I'm not bias because I live here, we ok maybe slightly.... ok yes I am ). Don't get me wrong, I like the 'Peg! :D
PB’s (official race results)
5K – 26:20; 8K – 41:28; 10K – 52:13; 15K - 1:22:43; 21.1K – 1:54:16; 30K – 2:51:34; 42.2K – 4:24:14

I love the Winnipeg Police Half, it's a great course (it's my 1/2 PB).
Best wishes to all racers doing it this year.

Looks like it will be pretty cool on Sunday morning. The hardest part of the morning could be finding a good parking spot. Have a great race every one.

Park at the St. James Civic Centre and walk/jog down, it's a good warm up.

Well, I'll keep my eye out for any orange then on Sunday morning :D I'm planning to go for it on Sunday, failing any setbacks with my foot in the next couple of days.

Given the lovely forecast, I'm unsure of what to wear that morning. I was planning on a t-shirt, but I'm wondering if long sleeves would now be a better idea.

Just is case those running WPS on Sunday, here is the recent e-mail from the race director:

Hi Everyone!

I am not sure how many will read this prior to race morning.

Our whole team as worked in the rain all day to ensure we are ready to go for the morning.

We fully intend to proceed based on the most recent forecast of -4, light snow and winds of 40 km/hr out of the Northwest with stronger gusts.

The only risk we see at this point, is freezing rain. We will be up at 0330 and have a look at various points of the course.

Heavy freezing rain, at this point, is the only circumstance in which we see a risk of race cancellation. I can not, as the Race Director, send 2500 runners onto a course I do not feel is safe.

So, if we have to cancel, I will email this same data base at 0500. Otherwise we will attempt to make the best of the day.

I will likely not be able to respond to any emails sent tonight, just stay tuned and thank you for your patience.

Nick

Good job everyone...on a very nasy winter morning. I took some photos of the conditions when I was out and about (before getting snagged into being a course marshall..it's hard to so no to police officers).

Thanks for the smiles and hugs! Well done everyone!

Thanks for the hug! It was very nice to see you on the course :D

I was wondering how you ended up being a course marshal. You should have asked for a ride in the helicopter in exchange for your course marshaling services ;)

This will give folks an idea of the charming conditions everyone in Wpg endured this morning. Quite lovely.

Oh yes, this looks depressing for May1! Kudos to all you racers and volunteers who braved it!
