Army Run
Army Run
So apparently I had to go Air Force to be asked to do the Army Run. Turns out my Brigade is looking for people to make up a team, so I put my name in (with the warning that I am not really an elite or anything). Half marathon.
Pretty cool, I hear they pay for flights and accommodations, not race fees (and possibly not food, but I don't know).
Anyway, not familiar with running in Ottawa, or the Army Run as a whole, I'll take any advice I can get...

Uhm... I'm not in the military, but I was also just about to come and ask for some more info... I might pull an Andy and sleep register for this.

Ye gads...it's scarey when people want to start acting like Andy
I've run this race twice (2008 & 2009...and a DNS in 2010). I love the course and I love the vibe.
I remember when this course was just a "twinkling in the eye"...I was at a Race Expo in 2007 and there was a table where two military people were asking for feedback on whether a Support The Troops race was a good idea. I had a long chat with them. I remember thinking to myself that it was a great idea but if no one showed up it would be very demoralizing for our Troops. Well...I'm happy to say this event has an amazing attendance.
I just registered today as part of my "comeback" journey. It will not be my A race this year (one in October is the one I'm planning for this). I fully expect that I will be emotional and teary eyed at the start. I find seeing our soldiers, including many who have come back as amputees, on the course very emotional.
I love this race.

I did the 5k once with my brother in law (who is Army) and it was an awesome experience. You could pick out the soldiers easily as the ones who didn't jump when the canon went off.

Re: Army Run
I have run it all three years that it has been in existence. It is by far, my favourite half-marathon. Unfortunately, I will miss this year as I have a marathon in Minnesota the same weekend.
Re: Army Run
I will admit to some apprehension since I would be going as part of the "Brigade Team".
I told them I would finish and not to expect land speed records.

I am sure that you will have a great time. Between the number of fellow maniacs and the number of military personnel running, it has a super atmosphere. Good luck!!

Re: Army Run
The army run is one of my favourite races too as I feel it was my best running performance to date. I hope to be there again this year to run the 5k with the soldiers from the Soldiers ON program. I think it is a great way for the public to show their support for the forces.

Re: Army Run
I ran all three of them so far (Half) The first year they were hoping to get 3000 runner's and ended up with 7001. That shows how we support our troops. Last year I think it was 12,000. I love this event, The people, soldiers, course etc. All in all it's a great run. I am already registered for this one. The teck shirts and medals are pretty cool.
Re: Army Run
I've been contemplating venturing back to Ottawa for this one since it started...you guys are talking me into it here...

Re: Army Run
I'll be running the half at the Army Run this year. Scotty is likely going to run the 5K.
Don't worry about being part of a "team" it is more about showing up and taking part than it is about performance!

Feeling like you're talking to yourself is unlikely to happen here.
Feeling like you're hanging out with a bunch of inspired, inspiring albeit a tad crazy bunch of people is more likely
