Another Monday

Postby mcshame » Mon Oct 17, 2011 5:32 am

but a lot colder than the mercury reads. Roads were wet this morning and a cold, damp wind blowing. Need to find those gloves, hands were cold. Recovering from a gastro of some kind, 1st run in 3 days. All alone on the wet, cold, empty road at 05:00. For the first time in a while, I felt like my old self. >8k @ 5:15 with one 200m walk up a hill because of a stitch, not fully recovered from the gastro. Last k was at 4:54, there is hope for me yet.

Have a good one.

Much running around for me today. Have some tests booked at the medical center early this morning then an app't with my ART and a READ session with Caleb (reading education assistance dog). Webinar this afternoon.

Six years ago today, another Monday, we got the call that Curt, my 17 year old nephew, had collapsed and died at school that morning. Curt was born with a heart defect and was one week from being assessed for a heart transplant. He had a stroke at the age of 10 and learned to walk, talk, everything all over again. His desire was to play guitar like Hendrix - a challenge at best but with one functional arm and hand? But that was what Curt was doing at age 17. He also did one handed slight of hand card tricks and would entertain anyone he could. He lived to love and to make people smile.

His mother, my sil, was out walking at the time of Curt's passing. A rabbit ran across her path. She had never seen a rabbit before while walking. Shortly thereafter her cell rang with the school calling. She flagged down a car and begged the man to drive her to the hospital. He was an off duty police officer who drove like a cop in full pursuit. She realized later that the timing of the rabbit crossing her path was the moment Curt passed. Rabbits cross the paths and lives of my family often since then. If you see a rabbit today think of Curt who refused to give up on his dreams despite the challenges he faced.

A Monday with a new boss and the start of the auditors' field work for me. IOW, busy day. This morning's workout was just some easy upper body stuff, followed by ab exercises and some hip stretching. I'm surprised (but very pleased) at how little stiffness or fatigue I'm feeling after yesterday's run. Don't want to go overboard but I may run easy tomorrow morning after all.

Good recovery vibes to all!
