Thanks for the suggestion Chris, I would love to join you...but I don't have the great recovery capacity you have worked so hard to attain as of yet.

I will get three races in in May including my first Ultra at Sulphur Springs so I am learning to have fun punishing myself... I will surely see you on the road or trail in the near future.

I think the new course will be faster, may have to give it a shot if I can recover from double race weekend the week before.

My God, that looks FAR!! I mean I know it's far no matter what, but my perception of running from north of the 401 all the way down, and then all the way to the Humber Bridge and back to OP... YIKES. I'm sure it'll be fast though. At least there's a good chance of a tailwind or at least no crazy headwind on the way back, as our prevailing winds are usually out of the west.

La wrote:Bayview has changed south of Queen (as of two weeks ago). When you get to the intersection where you used to turn right towards River St. then continue along King, you will now go straight (that little bit of road joining Bayview to River/Queen/King is now torn up and impassable). You'll go pretty far south - about parallel with Front St - and the road will then curve around and you'll run NORTH back to that intersection of King/Queen/River. That will add distance to the route.

Weird, but adds up now at least!

Can't say I love the new course... finishing at Queen's Park had a certain "showcase lots of aspects of Toronto" feel to it. But it should be faster, which at about 30km I'm sure I'd appreciate! Maybe next year.

its not so bad... did the 2nd half of the new course starting at king/river. It's a little windy running along the waterfront, but when you turn around not having to run back to QP >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. having to run to QP.

It's not that much further down the road from the prev turnaround (maybe a k?) but its so much shorter on the way back. Much improved. Nothing is worse than out and backs when you hvae to come back so far...

Having the map show 42.59kms is a little concerning though. I wouldn't put it past them to screw it up.

Fear not, the course has been fully measured. Google Maps are great, but are not quite as accurate as measuring the actual course with a Jones Wheel (hence the 42.5k). As you go around corners, Google Maps takes into account the width of the road, whereas when the course is measured, the SPR - "Shortest Possible Route" has to be taken (meaning the inside of corners, etc.). Over the marathon distance (42km), this can really add up.

Also, if you are interested in finding out why your GPS never shows the exact distance at the end of a race, feel free to check out the following link: http://www.riverregionrunners.org/html/ ... ticle.html It is a great link and explains the Jones wheel and why it is accurate for measuring the courses.

At packet pickup this year, in addition to picking up your race shirt they are giving you an extra Karbon shirt from past years plus the book '26.2: Marathon Stories'.

Pretty good schwag this year! :D

I am taking a long shot at a PB on this course... that being said I am tempted to do an event this weekend in my home town and the half is really calling my name. Would the 10k be smarter knowing that this will only be a week away?

Getting dropped off/ possibly picked up or maybe there's a shuttle to take us to Union or something after. If not, might walk/jog back and complain.

Park just east of the start. There will be lots of spots, business business area during the week with lots of parking. I will be there by 6:30 for same-day bib pickup for the 7:30 marathon start and have no concerns at all about finding parking. Don't sweat this one.
