and,
The new 5K at The Game of Life Run/Walk, in support of the Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC)’s grassroots sport programs in Africa and the Caribbean hosted by the RR ... http://www.events.runningroom.com/site/?raceId=8010

Anyone have Canada Day run suggestions for Etobicoke or Mississauga areas? My little guy would love to do a 3K or 5K, but he'd be game for something shorter, too. Basically, he wants his Nana/Uncle/Aunt/Cousin to watch him run

My daughter Amelia (9) and I are running the Barrie Canada Day 5K! This will be our 4th year (she usually does the 1K).

I would do the Downsview 5K it looks like a good one. I would have tried that this year for something different, but I have to take my daughter to camp up north the same day so Downsview wrong direction for me. It's where I grew up though so would have really have liked to do it. Close to the 401 as well.
Re: Canada Day Races ??
If they had started the Downtown Ottawa one earlier, or the Kanata one a half hour later, it would have been possible to do a double 5K this year ... As it stands now, the downtown has an 8am start time for the 5K and Kanata location is a 8:45am start time ... just not enough time to drive from one location to the the other ...

Canada day isn't hugely celebrated here in Québec...everyone just used the day to move out/into new apartments...

Re: Canada Day Races ??
I have to work, but there is a race in Moose Jaw, SK on July 1st.
www.moosejawg.com
5Km and 10 Km races plus a kids' race.
They have tech shirts and an optional breakfast available.
The weather can be pretty hot, though.

Re: Canada Day Races ??
The Canada Day Road Race in Edmonton has a 15k race (as well as a 5k and a 2.5k). When I saw the site listed was the Legislature grounds, I imagined a bunch of people running laps around the Leg. Pretty enough to look at, but I imagine by the 4th pass or so, it'd get a bit monotonous.
Ottawa Race Weekend 10k (2009): 1h07m; Army Half-marathon (2009): 2h38m; St. Patrick's Day 5k (2010): 33m; Ottawa Race Weekend Half-marathon (2010): 2h28m (getting better!); St. Patrick's Day 10k (2011): 1h13m (or not); Calgary 10k (2012): 1h06m (new PB!); Canadian Derby Half-marathon (2012): 2h17m (PB!)

It's not laps! it goes west toward Hawreluk (at least it did when I lived there). And they have a pancake breakfast after.

There's nothing going on in Saskatoon that day for racing, think I'll drink a beer or two and watch the fireworks.

I grew up in the Keele/Rustic Road area, so my TTC bus drove through Downsview each and every day! Am very tempted to take Duncan to this one, but as my brother just pointed out - it will depend if we hit Wonderland on June 30th or July 1st. Decisions, decisions. Will see what the little guy thinks when I show him the details tomorrow morning

Not remotely laps. Down the hill, along river valley road, over the bridge to Hawrelak (around the park), up Emily Murphy Hill, around the neighbourhood, back down the hill and back to the Legislature. Finishes with that lovely climb to the Legislature again. For some reason that race attracts more good runners than most, so the front end is REALLY competitive.
Free pancakes at the finish: good fun! The 5k is simply down to Groat Bridge and back, not nearly so competitive: I won it a couple of years ago.

I grew up at Wilson Heights/Sheppard but when I moved out I lived at Lawrence & Keele then to Weston/Lawrence, so very familiar with the area you grew up in....small world isn't it!

about 15 minutes west of moose jaw on highway 1.
There used to be a restaurant there called the Pilgrim. They were famous for their saskatoon pie... people would intentionally stop in 'Port on their way by, just for the pie. But the restaurant isn't there anymore. :(
