It was a good day at the races in our house. Ed (a.k.a. Terrific Whatzit) was doing the Prince Edward County Marathon as his A race for the Fall. I was running the marathon as a training run for NYC in a few weeks.

Well, as Erin mentioned above, it was Ed who got the PB: 4:04:48, a big jump from his previous 4:07:55 from Vancouver 2011. Really, really happy for him.

And my training run was good. I was targeting 3:45, but with no pace bunny I went out way too fast (amazing how much energy your legs have when you haven't run since Wednesday) and had trouble slowing down to the target 5:20 pace. So I paid for it in the end, the last 10 km were pretty tough, but the final time was 3:37:31. And it's a small race, so that was good enough for 1st place in the W 50-59 AG. Now with NYC in three weeks I need to rest a bit and maintain the fitness. Hope I can run that well (or better?) in the Big Apple. Big bonus with today was that my nutrition/hydration strategy appeared to work - no major GI issues or bonking. Fingers crossed I can repeat that as well.

Congratulations Ed and JB. :D

A mediocre day for me. Just missed my B goal but did get a PB by about 5.5 minutes but didn't run anywhere near to my training times. Woke up with sore legs, had the lingering cold, yadda yadda. Really though, every day can't be your best and overall it went okay. Trying to decide what to do next. Not sure I'm up for another 3 month training cycle so maybe I will think about lowering the times at the shorter distances instead until the spring.

Yikes, not so good race for me today which shook my confidence for next weekend when I am going for my first full.
