But with the advent of grants for anyone who asks, new events are popping up more quickly than I can run the existing races and we may be in the mid-20s for 2013.

This still shocks me. I'll run my 8th and 9th different Ontario Marathons within 2013 but in the time I've gone from 0 to 9, the races are into double-digits and up to 24.

For more useless information you didn't ask for, here is how I'd rank the Ontario Marathon Events I've done, from best to worst. I'll be doing the EndurRun and Toronto Waterfront Marathons for the first time this year and will add them. The former, the EndurRun, I am expecting to rank very high.

1 Detroit (Windsor)
2 Prince Edward County
3 Ottawa
4 Hamilton
5 Sudbury Rocks
6 Toronto
7 Toronto Indoor

A marathon run on a 2.25 km loop? I think I'd lose my mind by the 15th lap or so.

Detroit! Really!

Hamilton - I've done the half. Nothing against the organization, it's good, but the course is blech. Nothing to see for 99% of it, not as good as ATB even (which isn't the greatest either I might add!) But hey, you did the indoor marathon, so maybe that's not your thing. ;)

Detroit is really good. Electric start line, bridge crossing to Canada at sunrise, Windsor fans jamming a race full of support into 4K along the Detroit River, underwater mile into the USA, running along the Michigan side of the River, the historic Detroit neighbourhoods, Belle Isle, there is something every few K to experience.

Good aid stations both sides every 1.5 miles as NYC has every mile, good long-sleeved shirt and a great medal.

Fort Lauderdale is my favourite marathon that I've run but Detroit is likely just behind NYC and just ahead of PEC for a cold weather marathon. The free draughts on the beach late-race and at the finish are hard to match on The Great Lakes and East River.

Sounds very cool! Maybe I'll think about it for next year.

We're lucky we have natural resources in the ground in Canada. I don't think we're efficient enough to cast stones at any weak economies.

RM's very own Joggler was the writer. To be fair, BilL Crothers is alive. When we had the Sesame Street ratings, it could have been worse.

Looks like the trend of increasing marathons is reversing itself - as it would have to, the number of marathoners is not doubling each year. Down in Ontario from 24 to between 19 and 22 this year, including 5 to 4 in Ottawa:

- The Quebec-based Indoor Marathon circuit is not making a February stop in Ottawa this year;
- The Fools Marathon in Niagara may never have been a race, it looks to be just a posted long run, likely should have made my list for 2013.

No dates yet for Massey, Thunder Bay and PEC. PEC is strong and Thunder Bay gets a large government subsidy so these are likely a go. Hopefully Massey survives as well, I have heard only good things. 2014 schedule:
1/4 Toronto Indoor http://www.run4rkids.com/
2/9 Thunderwolves Indoor http://thunderwolves.ca/?page=IndoorMarathon
2/16 Winterman http://somersault.ca/eventwinterman.htm

Impressive list. Nice work. Had thought there was a tentative date of Jan 19 for the Ottawa Indoor Marathon but it may have been pulled. Too bad--only 104 laps around the track.

When are you starting the half marathon list? :D :D

I got enough questions on this one that I blogged a few words on Ontario's marathons:
