The Colour Run - Happiest 5K on the Planet (Montreal)

Postby lorei » Tue Jan 01, 2013 9:22 pm

I happened across this 5K race series which looks pretty neat for a fun run..... The only Canadian date is in Montreal but there's a bunch in the US northeast if you just so happen to be in the area.

WELCOME TO The Color Run™ MONTREAL!
The Color Run™ is going down in Montreal, Quebec on August 17th, 2013 at 9am. The only question is “Are you ready for the craziest, colorful, 5k of your life?” You bet you are. Race it solo or form a “color team” of 4+ members. Check out the race details below & we’ll see you all squeaky clean at the start line.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Color Run™ is a one of a kind experience that is less about speed and more about enjoying a color crazy day with your friends and family. For our events, it is about participants of all different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes toeing the start line. Whether you are a casual morning mall walker or an Olympic athlete, the 3 miles of The Color Run™ course will be the most enjoyable real estate you’ve traveled in a VERY long time.

I know its only a 5K but this looks so darn fun, I may need to make plans for a road trip to Montreal!

My friends did the Chicago run last year and really enjoyed it. Not a race though - people mostly stopped at the colour points and got covered in the colour. There was a similar type run here in Ottawa - and some other Canadian cities last year. It rained on the Ottawa one, but a co-worker who did it still had fun.

A similar "race" is coming to T.O on June 22-23 -- Color Me Rad! I've signed up!

There are a few more Cnd cities on the list too

2013 sure looks like a colourful year...

The Colour Run - Happiest 5K on the Planet (Montreal)

Looks like fun although I had to laugh at the "one of a kind experience" description. There are a ton of these runs now. :)

A little bit of cliche marketing.

My girls did the Colour Run in Montreal last October. It was held at Parc Jean Drapeau. As Jesse said, it definitely wasn't a race! I was starting to get worried when they hadn't finished the 5K after about 45 minutes. Apparently they stopped for quite awhile at the "colour stations."

The start was in waves over the course of almost an hour. I have no idea how many people participated but it seemed like a lot. There was encouragement to enter as teams. They encouraged dressing in costumes and the also the white run t-shirts which came in the registration kits. It seemed like a fairly young crowd. I would say the majority were in their older teens and early twenties. There were a few older people, and they seemed to be mainly with younger family members, but they were definitely in the minority. Even my girls at 29 and 30 were older than a lot of the runners. But they did have a good time. There is no timing of the event - it really isn't a race.

The colour is given out in packages that you burst and throw. It is something like coloured corn starch. They also had some sort of cannons at the colour stations that fired out the colour. There was lots of music, coloured powder and lots of announcements (which I couldn't understand as they were all in French).

Both girls said they would do it again.

If you are interested in the one in Montreal, they have moved it to August this year. Here is the link to the website:

Well tried to....they let me enter all the information before telling me it was sold out...not impressed.
