Dee, from what I can find out, there is a full ground stop at Logan at this point.

Stay where you are....reach out to people if you feel unsafe, PM me for a cell phone number if you want.

I can't imagine having to deal with such trauma after running a marathon, you are so exhausted and emotionally fragile, I just can't comprehend what they must be feeling.

I know this is a bit runner-centric but my thoughts none the less.

My thoughts go to the spectators, runners, officials, volunteers and emergency response teams and any other affected by this...

This is the most bizarre terrorist attack - what is the target? What would be the point?

I cannot conceive of how confused, frightened, angry and terrified this has made so many runners on what should be a day of celebration and achievement.

I have nothing more to say right now - just shocked!

Terror of the masses. That's the point. Think of how Dee is feeling, and apply that to the hundreds of thousands of people in Boston.

A commentator just made this point very clearly: Tons of international news outlets are at that finish line, giving maximum coverage of the impact the bombs had. So many will see, so many will be impacted. So many will think "it can happen anywhere," be scared, and (potentially) change their behaviour.

The flipside is, hopefully... that this would also mean there's lots of media to analyze.

Since I was supposed to run, my name is on the Boston marathon list. As I arrived home, there was a message from a news station wanting to talk to me. Sheesh...

I'd be more worried for spectators than runners since the explosion was on the sidewalk, not the road. But still, based on Ken's time at 40K (2:44PM, explosion went off at 2:50PM) he would have been very close. I wonder about MrsTortoise, who likely would have been somewhere near the finish waiting for him.

Well, a tiny bright spot... police have now confirmed that the JFK library fire was indeed unrelated.

I thought they were not allowed to do that (because of emergency calls) but I imagine everything is so overloaded, it wouldn't matter.
