Registration is supposed to open today. 9am maybe? It's not open yet.
Is anyone planning to run it?

Ooops, online registration for MCM appears to be Chicago Marathon dejavu, all over again, apparently ...

Re: Marine Corps Marathon
MCM registration sold out as of 2:27 pm. Thank you runners for your enthusiasm for the MCM and, just as important, for your patience today.
I watched it on FB. it was a total mess. People tried over and over and did not get in. If they got in there was a message that registration was on hold which confused a lot of people who thought the race was sold out within the first 30 minutes. Then people got to payment and got hung and booted out. Now people are reporting that their credit cards were charged two or 3 times and they are getting 1 + email confirmations. It looks like some of the boot outs after putting in payment info actually were processed. So people are saying they have bibs for sale already!
What a mess!

Re: Marine Corps Marathon
On the MCM facebook page. People were billed 2 or more times and were receiving 2 or more confirmation emails as time went on. One person did post that active.com said they would cancel out the duplicates. That leaves two questions though. How many duplicate entries are there and what will they do with the new open spots?
Re: Marine Corps Marathon
MCM is posting that active.com caught the duplicates during registration, noted them, and sold the duplicates. So even if you ended up registered 2 or more times and were billed 2 or more times you will eventually be refunded over the coming days, and are actually registered only once. You duplicates were sold during registration.
Given how many issues people had during registration it is hard to fathom how they managed to do that ...

Sold, what does that mean? I'll bet the Canadians get squeezed on the exchange rate. The credit card exchange surcharge is a bit less than 3% for each transaction. So if you buy they add the 3 and when you get a credit they deduct 3 so about 6% charge. I've had this happen in US stores at the checkout where the clerk makes an error and starts all over again.

Wow, this is eerily similar to Chicago (which active.com totally bungled as well)..... Someone buy active some more servers and maybe a load balancer or 2 !

Just call the CC company and ask for the difference to be refunded; had this happen a few times in Europe and the Company always made the refund when asked.

An Apology from Active: Have you ever had a race where after months or even years of training, eating right, investing in new gear, it went badly? This happened to Active last week and we're sorry. The registration experience did not reflect the iconic Marine Corps Marathon itself. To create some good out this experience, we're donating all of our fees associated with this race to two causes we can all get behind, the Wounded Warrior Project and Semper Fi Fund. This by no means makes our mistake right, but using these funds to support our military and the running community is the best way we know to move forward. Thank you for being a part of making this happen.

Prettyy good for Active. That said, I am pleased that I ran the Marine Corps Marathon a few years ago. I had no problem registering for it at that time.
