What is this device?

Postby jamix » Mon Apr 29, 2013 12:27 pm

Today I was in my car and I saw someone pedalling this two-wheel contraption which basically looked like an elliptical on two wheels  . The woman was standing up like one does on an elliptical and was pushing those same kind plastic surfaces / pedals with her feet in an elliptical / running motion which would cause the wheels to turn and propel her forward.

Does anyone know what these things are called and where I can buy one????

YES, thank you!

Darn 1800$!!! It's a rip-off but given the amount of "running-specific" low impact cross-training one could do on something like that, I just may have to buy one, hmmmmm

Funny. :)

I thought the Elliptigo was a joke too the first time I saw it, but I have actually seen them outdoors. :)

p.s. Jamix- you're joking right? you don't need to spend $1800 on something like that! Ellipitcal training isn't that running specific-- you're better off mixing it up with running and cycling.

They finally sold it at the Bush    They had it on the floor when I was working there and many customers had tried it, but nobody had forked out the $$$ ... So, I suspect that it went for a pretty cheap $$$, well under the msrp ...

Hmmmm, yes looking back to my previous post, it seems my enthusiasm may have gotten the better of me. There is no chance in hell I'd ever fork over 1800$ for that when I can just use the one at the gym which ironically I never do

For someone that can't run I guess it would be ok but why not just ride a bike?

Yeah, should have known. :)

I know it's hard to get sponsorship as a professional runner but this is pretty annoying.

Sandy has one at her store here in Trenton. We all had fun last year trying it out, although I admit it scared the cr@p out of me. I didn't feel like I had a lot of control. She rode it one day when we went out biking but I think she found it a lot harder, and was hard to keep up, even to the slow biker that I am. She probably did about 6K on it before she turned around and went back to the store. She has it on sale but I don't know what the price is.
