Beat the Heat Sunday

Postby ceileigh » Sun Jul 07, 2013 6:29 am

Got up early to hit the road and beat the heat this Sunday. Mind you with 26C by 5AM there really isn't much you can do about the heat. The irony is I truly did hit the road. All the rain in June has caused a lot of trees to grow and grow and grow. For some reason home owners do not realize that they need to trim the trees that are branching over sidewalks Some go right out over the roads. Have to duck down a lot in my neighbourhood. Ducked down to clear a tree about 1KM from home, stubbed my toe and took a dive over the curb and right onto the road. Fortunately I landed on my good side (not on the side of my already hurt shoulder). Ended up with road rash on my knee and elbow and my hip was really hurting. Could have been the keys in my hip pocket that I landed and rolled on  Cut my run short and came home. Iced the knee and hip. In the grand scheme of things could have been a lot worse. Just a bit of bruising and a little less skin. Figure a day or two and I won't even know I did a thing. But yeah I got up and hit the road running for sure today!

Hope y'all have a better day of running then I did!

Glad to hear your fall wasn't worse!

Heading out for about a 70km ride this morning with my sister. Thankful that it's a little overcast this morning.

Got out the door about 7:00 last night for a 21 km run, trying to beat the heat and sun that I expected would be happening today. The first hour or so was pretty brutal, but it got a little better once the sun was really low in the sky. So humid and sticky; it was so tempting to just bail on the whole thing! It's a little bit overcast here this morning and I can see we've had some rain, so maybe I would have been better off waiting. Oh well. I don't get a lot of lazy Sunday mornings so I'm enjoying this one.

Have a great day. Stay hydrated!

Beat the Heat Sunday

Postby Jwolf » Sun Jul 07, 2013 7:41 am

No chance of beating the heat for me. I woke up early but it was still 25C (77F) when I started my run. "Feels like" 32C with humidity supposedly. I definitely felt it. My plan was to do 1:15-1:30 or 12-15k and I did 13k in 1:25. Good enough. :) Glad I got it done. I've run here many times but I don't remember it being like this so early. It never really cools down at night with the humidity.

I sympathize with you Ontario people but I never want to hear someone back in Vancouver complain of "humidity" again. :)

Ha ha - we got married in the middle of August, in Toronto, and I recall some of my family from BC saying, "Now I know what people are talking about when they complain about the humidity".

I was just outside for a few minutes and although it's not sunny it is very warm and sticky. I really feel bad for the people doing the Peterborough 70.3 today.

7k with the clinic this morning.

It was muggy, but the light rain was refreshing.

I've just started my training for another set of half and full marathons. Hopefully the marathon will go better than last fall!

I have 6k on the board for today, likely after the sun goes down. But yesterday, I knew the heat would be a beast, so I strapped on a heart-rate monitor, just to keep me in the "sane" range. My policy was, "Run at a pace where my heart rate stays around 160." The challenge? I was "going slowly", but had to keep walking because my heart rate would rise to 171 and above. Ack! That's when you KNOW it's too hot.

Born and raised in BC, now living in Ottawa. I hear you :D

Just got back from a slow and steady 9K and yes, it's a little moist out there.

Up early for a 22K bike ride. It felt quite cool at the start but that soon disappeared! Back in time to shower, change and toddle off to Yin Yoga.

Easy morning run turned into a longer progression when a (friendly) dog started running beside me. After 2K without dropping it, I turned around and returned to the street where I found it, convincing some people sitting on their patio to keep it distracted while I escaped. 20K total.

15 km road run. Not so hot this morning, but definitely humid. My socks and shoes were soaked by the end, and it wasn't raining and I didn't run through any puddles.

It is ok for JW in Florida to complain about humidity; but I don't think Ontario Canada comes even close. Tropical humidity is somehow more oppressive. Even Missouri was not as bad as Houston.

I got out later than usual this morning (8 am) but it wasn't too bad. 14 km and change done - we found some shade, but there was also a lot of cloud cover, so it wasn't terrible. nice run!

Nice run. :)

I know this wasn't directed at me but it made me do a search to see if I ever have complained about humidity.

13k done here as well. Heading out for a bike ride now.

5k at the Stampede Road Race, followed by the kids races for the Hamsters! Not my fastest 5k - 23:55ish (chip didn't work, so they just gave me the time I saw on the clock after I crossed the finish. Still good enough to win my AG, so I have a shiny gold-coloured bolo tie as a prize. GrannieHammie also won her AG, and the kids had a great time. Nice to see Turd & his family today too.

22K in the books on a nice sunny day in YVR. Not as hot as last week, perfect for running this morning. 9.6K prior to meeting up with Marymac & the Bonsor crew and then 12K with them, followed by another 400M to make-up the distance needed per the 'schedule'.

And congrats to Hammie & GrannieHammie on there AG placing!

An easy paced 14km trail run around the lake this morning which was suprisingly busy. 18C at around 8:30 am this morning, no complaints here.

Followed up this mornings run with a not very energetic 26km ride at LSCR - an hour and twenty minutes total. Would have liked to do 40k but didn't have nearly enough calories today to manage that.

Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.
