Real men run home from their vasectomy...
Seriously though, I took 2 weeks off and was fine. Probably could have just taken the one but was being extra cautious. Better that than end up with a "grapefruit"...if you get my meaning....

My guy at the Gentle Vasectomy Clinic (yup) said 2 weeks.

Pro tip: wear a jock strap for the first week when you return to running, keeps the boys nice and snug...

Extra support sounds like a good idea
Re: Vasectomy
I think I missed about 2 weeks of running. I still had to wear some type of support for another week.
If you have to ask me why I Run, You probably wouldn't understand!

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day
So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Scotty was supposed to take two weeks off...but he went to the field on an EX with his troops. For the record, Johnny-Rockets are not the most sanitary setting for relieving one's self after a vasectomy. Consequences were paid, duly.

I don't know what qualifies as enough support in this situation, but we carry these at the store, and we get a LOT of positive - if awkward - feedback about them: http://www.saxxunderwear.com/

I think this company presented their product on The Dragon's Den a few seasons back. The Dragons turned it down, but it looks like they are making a success of their product just the same.

I was 40, totally done having kids and COMPLETELY done with having sex like a teenager, if you know what I mean. No regrets at all.
BTW - when I said 2 weeks, that was for running. I was walking the dog and doing regular exercise the same day, just not running or biking. I scheduled mine for winter so I wouldn't go stir crazy.

Part of me agrees with you. Part of me says that an unplanned pregnancy and birth control are a family decision and not one person's chooice to make.

This. I currently take the BCP due to other issues, side benefit is no uplanned surprises. If I ever have to go off, DH knows that it is his turn to take responsibility and get the snip.

Re: Vasectomy
My first run was 7 days after and I had no issues. I think I played hockey about 4 days after. But I would recommend doing what your doctor tells you. Running will always be there, but I have heard some horror stories about some guys jumping in too soon post op. Maybe they are urban myths, but why take the chance.
The best one I heard was about a guy who went to a wedding the day after, intending to take it easy. Well after a few drinks he decided he wasn't feeling any pain and thought it was a good idea to dance the night away. Woke up with grapefruits.

June: Mizuno 10 Miler Rio de Janeiro 1:23:36.
July: Rio de Janeiro Marathon 1:48:30 (new PB).
Re: Vasectomy
Not urban myths, I've seen a few "basketballs" in the OR. It doesn't look very comfortable and involves a second surgical procedure to remove the accumulated blood.

I understand. But I don't live in an authoritative marriage, don't worry. I'm fine with our mutual decision about how to prevent pregnancy. It wasn't like he said "no way, no discussion" - we did discuss it, although I know he does have strong personal objections to having the procedure.

Don't offer to pitch for a slow-pitch baseball game.
Thirty years ago one of my brother's friends showed up for a game a couple of days after having a vasectomy and wasn't going to play. However, he volunteered to pitch, 'cuz he didn't have to do anything other than lob the ball. First batter... my brother. First pitch... drilled him right you know where.
