This comment sort of sums it up:

Man, I figured it would be written as a spoof/humorous article. The author seems angry in it.

I like this

awwww did a runner dump you recently?

Something about the webpage's countless list of "inappropriate scenes of boobs in cartoons", "great shots of boobs with purses" and "more boobs" should have tipped me off that he was something special.

I guess I'm lucky that the site is blocked for me at work.

Let's create our own 13 Reasons That Runners Are Jerks:

1. They make the rest of us feel guilty with their constant talk/posting about how long/far they've run.

Considering I'm the only one who seems interested in doing this, I suggest we start with that list, first. ;)

In my opinion the title is incorrect. Having been a "runner" and then for the last several years a "racer" and now attempting to rediscovery my inner runner, the correct title should be why ever "racer" is a jerk.

For fun, I copied the following and saw how many are true when I was obsessed with racing and personal bests and Boston Qualifying times, etc.

They run through and around traffic and really don't care about the rules of the road

Guilty as charged. Scared the hell out of one driver and myself as I did not want to break stride or my pace so literally cut in front of a truck. He turned around to yell at me and I frankly deserved it. When running, lights and other road signs are merely suggestions.

They brag about losing toenails and bloody nipples are ACCEPTABLE

Posted and shared photos of the same. Very odd to think that doing something that ironically damages one's body in a "healthy" pursuit is something to be proud of.

Running on crowded sidewalks is common as long as you don't get in their way with your "walking"

I hate running near people and so attempt to avoid those situations. When I did run commute to work and that could not be avoided, I did walk or see above, run between cars stopped for a light.

Runners love to sticker brag how far they've run...ironically stuck to the back of their cars

I have a tattoo on my leg but nothing on my vehicle but this one is funny if you really think about it.

The entire sport is based on being selfish and alone

That was and still is the appeal to me. As a true introvert, one way to recharge my batteries is to go for a run on a path or some other route where there is no one else there. I have worked vacations and rounds of golf not only around races but training at times.

When a race is over, every runner gets a medal. Medals. For everyone. Grown people with medals

Completely subjective and arbitrary but a medal for anything under a marathon does seem a little foolish. I will admit I entered races in part because of age group medals. At one time, I did have a "shrine" to me with the medals but soon there were so many it was meaningless. Finisher medals, age group medals, etc. I still have a shadow box with my marathon finisher medals and for me that is still cool, especially the two Boston Marathon ones but the rest are hung on a nail to the side.

Not EVERY runner can pull off running shorts but EVERY runner tries

To quote one of the greatest philosophers of all time, Dirty Harry, "every man has to know his own limitations". I know I cannot pull those off and a couple of times I have thrown up in my mouth at the sight of some guy who is wearing them but should not. A woman who is built for those shorts is another thing.

The sport is so boring they need gimmicks to make it entertaining

Running is boring but that is part of the appeal to me. Spartan, mud, color runs are unnecessary gimmicks to me but that is just me. If I am stressed or anxious, there is nothing better than a nice boring run to clear me mind.

Don't plan on runners doing anything on a weekend, they've got a race (or need to train for one)

Training to qualify for Boston with my most important long run scheduled, I blew off a friend who had traveled from Kelowna. Skipped hikes with my dad and a number of other things that I now regret doing.

Runners think other people care about their times. Even other people interested in running don't care about their times

In the first instance, I know they do not but that did not stop me. And in the second, I think other runners are but not all are the extent and detail I can go into.

They invite people to WATCH THEM RUN

I tell people not to come as I personally could not think of anything more boring than to sit somewhere just to watch me run for 30 seconds or so.

Races shut down major streets for hours, but it's cool, no one else was going anywhere today

Yup and see selfish above.

"Did I mention I went for a run today? How many times? Here's one more mention.."

Guilty as charged. But the odd thing is that if I do not talk about it, I now have people ask, "do you still run" etc.

...and that's why I think the post is funny and tongue-in-cheek. Frankly, if you can't see the humor in it or are offended by it, maybe you (Royal You) do take running too seriously. Maybe you should go for a run and shake it off. ;)

Naw it's not that. The concept was sound but the delivery was really poor, could and should have been really funny, instead it's just meh...

It would have been funny had those monotonous/autonomous animations not come out last year that basically said all the same thing. Those were funny!

The author just doesn't add anything new. Thus he comes across as a jerk.
