Still cold Sunday

Postby Ken B » Sun Feb 16, 2014 11:08 am

Okay - Second day in a row starting the daily thread - something is not right in the world!

I ran/walked an easy 6.5 km with my friend BumbleG and two other friends from the Waterloo RR this morning. Tomorrow is the Grimsby Half-Marathon.

Blizzard conditions on the east coast today so 9 easy miles on my steadfast tm. Glad I ran long yesterday when it was sunny and beautiful out! Speedy vibes to all the racers!!!
We train more joyfully and productively when we focus on the now, rather than on our future race day performance. It's a long road from here to there with many miles to go. We need to run each one. Accept where you are today and simply be thankful for the work you've accomplished. KA

I'm back from vacation! Just in time to do a slow, snowy 13 k with my clinic! It was a bit tough after getting g home late last night! I have a lot of catching up to do!

12k in bright, beautiful sunshine! +1C too. The 40-60km/h wind gusts weren't great, but I was smart enough to run into the wind on the way out.

10K on the TM for me. I was hoping to head outside but the -27 wind chill when I got up scared me back into the basement, LOL.

4 km on the treadmill this morning - decided I didn't feel like braving the cold for a short run.

Nice easy run with the clinic, I really enjoyed today's run, still just doing 3 min running plus 2 min walk but there are three or four that are comfortable with a 6:30 pace so it's great recovery run after Saturday's long run.

After watching DW push through the cold and finish her 3rd 1/2 today at winterman, and feeling the best I've felt all week I took a chance and headed out for 10k. Good news is the illness seems to have mostly passed. 10k 48min which I'm happy with consider I've been I'll since last Sunday...that wind has bite though. Also the ITBS...well still hurts to touch since Thursdays ART/Graston session, but it didn't hurt to run on.

Yippee...happy me returns, sullen me gets put back away. Hope I can get back to my schedule now. I was supposed to be on day 2 of back to back 3hr days carrying 10lbs in my backpack in addition to water/nutrition. Feel like I've been cheated out of a great weekend of running.

Decided to do an hour on the treadmill so I could watch the Olympics. At least they're not interfering with my fitness… :)

In my blog on words, I wrote a post yesterday on a topic familiar to many here: what it feels like at the end of your first marathon… http://sesquiotic.wordpress.com/2014/02/16/gruelling/
Marathons: 1; 30k: 2; Half marathons: 6; Shorter: Um, I've lost track
PBs: Half-marathon: 1:35:32; 5K: 19:54 (both 2012)

Today was a great day. As I said on my FB post, it was the hardest-fought sub-2:00 half-marathon I've ever run. ;) I'm happy with what I had today and my post-injury PB. We had great weather despite the dire rain and wind warnings (no rain and only a bit of wind). I saw most of my running friends out there today including some of my best running buddies ;) and everyone did well.

Congratulations to all of you who were racing out there today too.

Got a 10k PB at Winterman today!...then had someone back into our car in a parking lot getting coffee afterwards. Indian food and a beer tonight to relax/recover.

45 minutes on the rowing machine earlier. Wanted to get out the back door on the snowshoes but I pulled something at soccer last night. Tomorrow...

A fairly peppy 9k this morning - I think this is the longest distance I've gone since the marathon in Oct. I'm finally starting to enjoy myself again, although this winter is really a drag.
