Spring Ahead Sunday

Postby Habs4ever » Sun Mar 09, 2014 9:22 am

Don't forget to change your board preferences by checking the daylight savings time button.
Warm and windy today, supposed to be +14. I'm not sure if it's a Chinook or old man winter is finally leaving.
A run will happen later, distance TBD.

Have a great day Maniacs.

1.5k run around the block to the store, then 14k wit the half Marathon clinic. It was a great morning. Cold, but dry road conditions, and bright sunshine!

Gorgeous day for a run! I didn't go out until after 11AM (DST) and the sun was shining and beautiful. Just over 12K done in about 1:15.

Sunny here now too but too cold for the stroller this morning, so it was treadmill for me. Took a while to get warmed up and comfortable, but 4 km done.

Glorious sunshine and warmth (up to 8 degrees). 40K done with no fuel or water and I felt like I could have stayed out there all day.

I did a really nice 18k run. Afterwards I headed out to watch my friend mike do the UBC duathlon. It was great to watch all the racers. :)

7.4 km outside today. Nice enough, just below 0. One annoyance: I charged up my Garmin watch yesterday – touch bezel model. I grabbed it today and discovered it was drained down to 0 again. Ridiculous. That thing is so annoying. I'm never getting a touch bezel model again. And I think it has some quirks with the satellite handling too – if I turn on the satellite reception before getting into the elevator, even if it's fully charged it may drain out within 3 or 4 km. Ridiculous. So anyway, I just used an ordinary watch, did mental math to calculate my time, ran on a familiar route so I know the distance.

I'm thinking its time to start an anti-Garmin thread.
Most of my friends have them, and I have no particular use for them.
I don't need to know how far I just went down to the last tenth of a kilometer.
As for the rest of the features - wouldn't know what to do with them.
And the one I have for my car has the most annoying English lady voice...

Occasionally, I think my garmin is charging but it is not. don't know why. Otherwise, I have a number of routes I know the distance of so just time myself.

Roughly 5 mile trail run with my brother, who is staying with me for a month and doesn't know the trails. So it's fun to show him around. Nice day, sun started breaking through the cloud cover just as we were starting. Definitely feels like spring! :)

Did 15.7 km this am out on country roads. First half into a rather soul-sucking Chinook Arch headwind compensated by the tailwind in the second half.

Route is here: http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/367761189 if anyone is interested. Beautiful, lonely running. i think they're missing a large hill on the elevation chart at about 7 miles.

Walked the dogs a few miles. Doing some x country skiing around the acreage this aft. Some push-ups and resistance in the garage later.

Plus 6, mostly sunny. Lots of people out on their bikes on rural roads southwest of Calgary this afternoon.

Hope everyone is having a good day.
Dear Lord, help me be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

A little over 5K for me down by the canal. There were loads of big puddles and icy sections and just when I was thinking about getting into a rhythm, I'd have to stop or slow way down because of ice, a huge puddle or to take turns going around stuff with the other folks out walking. My pants were also soaking up water and slapping against my leg every step I took. At that point I was wishing I had worn shorts, it was so nice out. Pretty much a debacle the whole way around, LOL

If you have the Garmin 410, the touch bezel is known to be a huge problem.

11k for me in warm sunshine! However, 1k in, I went through some ice that the bottom had melted out of. Twisted my ankle, but it felt fine and I kept going. It felt great right up until I took my shoe off - now I have a huge swollen ankle :? . Bah humbug.

Ran the second of my two long runs this weekend. 29 km of cold wind. Yesterday was 35 km of stronger wind, but warmer temperatures. I'm ready for spring.

17km for me this afternoon- finished off with the last 6km into a wicked headwind with skin scouring grainy snow.
Keep on rolling, just a mile to go. Keep on rolling my old buddy, you're moving much too slow.

10k on a beautiful afternoon, + 14C, sunny. Hardly any slush left, but still lots of water laying around.

So, finally did a long run outside! 30 km today, 15 km with my running buddy and the rest on my own. Although the air was still kind of cold when I left home, the sunshine was warm and that makes such a difference. Some wind but nothing terrible. Best of all, I didn't have a single bit of the plantar fasciitis-type pain that was so bad earlier this week. So I really don't know what was going on with that - a week ago my foot ached, and as late as Wednesday it was still uncomfortable - but I'm glad it's not happening anymore.
