Snowy Sunday?

Postby RA. » Sun Mar 23, 2014 6:57 am

We got a few centimeters last night. Not a lot, just enough to be visible. My new training schedule starts today, and I woke up with a head cold. So, I may or may not attempt the 5k on the schedule. We'll see after coffee. Then to the big city later today.

Couch to 5K Week 2 Day 2: 90s running, 120s walking repeat for 20 min.

Harder today. Could be the cold (-14 wind chill) or just a late night last night. Rest or walk tomorrow.

I got out for my 5k, but it was icy. I'm not packing outdoor running clothes for this week. Treadmill all the way.

My easy Sunday run ended up being a bit more challenging than expected. We did an out and back run and a number of the quicker participants did a quick turn around on me so I had to do a bit of a sprint (on an uphill :? ) to catch up to them. One participant who hasn't been out for the last couple of weeks was here today so had to run a quicker pace with him. Between the sun shine and a real run today - good times. Pretty good mileage for me this weekend. I ran 9 km yesterday, mostly because the temperature was above zero and I knew that I'd regret missing the chance to get out there in good conditions. Unfortunately, since we were supposed to get snow and freezing rain overnight Friday and on Saturday morning, I didn't plan my long run for Saturday and the logistics didn't work to change it on the fly. I was really sorry about that today, because 30 km in the cold and wind was tough. It wasn't as cold or as windy as last Sunday, but the wind was relentless once again. At least the first 17 km were with two running buddies, so I only had to suck up 13 km on my own. The last few km were pretty slow - promised myself that if I didn't take a short cut home and bail on the total distance, I could take as many "warmth breaks" as I wanted. "Warmth break" = stop running into wind, pull up face warmer and/or turn face to sun, resume running when face no longer feels like it's turning into a block of ice.

I wanted to get a last skate in today (horaay!) so just a short 5k run and a 30 minute skate. Ice is in very rough shape so I think it is spring.

20+ miles trail run today, in gorgeous sunny spring conditions. :)

I add the + because garmin was being dumb and I know it shorted me, just not sure how much.

It's been a very long time since I did that distance, so I'm quite happy with that. Hurting and hungry now though! :)

Good work Holly!

I ran 3 miles, I've been taking it easy since abandonning the plans for a spring half. I will buy some compression socks this week and try to get control over my shinsplints. I don't want a repeat of 2013 and my stress fracture so trying to be wise about it....

Beautiful day for a 26k run. I missed yesterday's 13k run after getting home from work much later than expected. Beer was calling so I scrapped the run. I'll try to make up for it for next week.
