Hot one it seems, lots of runners I'm tracking really slowing down in the 2nd half.

A friend of mine split 1:21 half / 3:15 full. It sounded brutal.

I've noticed that, too.

Thanks everyone for tracking! I really enjoyed the race today and soaked it all in. I had watch issues during the race (turned off 4 times) so I was a bit lost with timing. I had a rough idea and knew I was slowing down but it's all good.

Time to rehydrate with beer and enjoy the rest of the festivities!

Considering you didn't even know what your time was, you did pretty awesome-- and you didn't even slow down that much considering the heat. Congratulations again... continue to enjoy your moment.

And enjoy your well-earned beer. :)

Thanks to the trackers!

It was a hot day out in Boston and sometimes there was a headwind. I knew going in that I was injured and undertrained so this was purely a victory lap. After doing Around the Bay a couple of weeks ago, I knew that 30 km was realistic, and said that if I could make it that far, I was prepared to walk the rest of the way.

Anyway, the first half went pretty well, and then as we got into Newton and it seemed extra sunny and hot, I definitely started to slow down. Ran the first hill (slowly), and then started to run the second hill and that was the first time that my knee really hurt. So I made a snap decision to walk the hills, so of course my pace dropped a whole lot! The last 10 km after the hills, I mostly ran the downhill parts, and walked the little uphills and a lot of the flatter sections. It was hot, I was more tired than usual for that point of the race (see: undertrained, above), and there was no good reason to push anything. So this was a PW but I could not be happier about simply finishing - that was my only real goal. :) Boston is always awesome and crossing that finish line is wonderful.

Now to rest and rehab for real! I still love the marathon and hope to do at least a few more.

Any Boston is a good Boston unless you are (see other thread). Congrats everyone.
