Hill training in Ottawa

Postby Agent Provocateur » Sun Feb 04, 2007 10:15 pm

Where do Ottawa people do their hill workouts? Is there a (non-parliament) hill relatively close to downtown?

I have seen people doing hill training by the locks, starting by the Ottawa River. That's nearby the Parliament but that's not Parliament, that's Parks Canada properties.

If you don't find it steep enough, finish each interval at the top of the stairs.

You could also substitue hills by speed intervals.

If you don't mind getting farther from Downtown, there is boul. Mont-Bleu in Hull. It's 13% steep and long enough.

During summer, Gatineau Park is the best. Too bad you can't go for now.

The Slater RR does their hills behind Parliament, right by your building down to the River. It's the road at the very end of Bank Street that goes to the right and down to the parking lots below.

Nathalie, if you want to venture a bit further, the beginning of Prince of Wales Drive, from Dow's Lake Pavillon to the roundabout at the Experimental Farm is a good hill. On Sussex Dr., there are a couple of hills, right after Rideau Hall if (you are coming from the Market) and further East before it becomes the Aviation Parkway.
I run because it's fun.

Corkstown is only 5 minutes by car. If you want something you can run to from Ikea...the only one I can think of would be the Pinecrest Creek Pathway along the transitway from Iris down to Lincoln Fields.

Why has Carlington ski hill not been mentioned? Its a great long climb hill and on the east side is a steep climb.
