SO FRUSTRATED!!!

Postby QuickChick » Tue Jun 06, 2006 6:23 pm

I tried to run on the TM tonight. I hadn't tried to run since Thursday, and I was able to do 20 minutes then. Tonight I was optimistic that I could be pain free for up to 25. I FELT MY KNEE AFTER 12 MINUTES. I'm back where I started. I am so m**^%^f#@&**g SICK OF THIS!!!! I'm going to LOSE IT!

Sorry... end of rant. I figured you guys would understand.

hey Lisa,

I wouldn't consider it starting over... with any injury you'll have good days and bad days... rest it for a couple of days and then try again. It's going to get better!

Can't wait to have some icecream with you in a few weeks! We will drown your sorrows! :)

Lisa, what has your physio/chiro said about your injury? Are you receiving treatment?

My heart goes out to you Lisa. I remember being close to tears on the physio table last summer when I blew out my knee. Actually, I did cry.

Injuries suck, plain and simple. Hopefully this was an off day in your recovery and things will improve the next time.

:(

Lisa, that sucks.

Rant all you want and use bad words. It won't make the pain go away but at least the frustration will get out of your system.

As Holly said, rest a few days and try again... You won't have to start from LTR again, don't worry!

Good luck!

Lisa, you are such a great athlete. This is a setback, but you will be able to come back from it.

No need to apologize for ranting. We all need to do that sometimes!

I'm so sorry for you, Lisa. It sucks. I think Holly has it right: there will be good days and bad. Keep listening to your body, though, because it will get better if you give it time.

I can sympathize Lisa  I'm feeling the same right now, I walk along the waterfront watching the runners, thinking.." it's a beautiful evening for a run". Then I go up some stairs, or simply plant my foot wrong and I feel the pain on my knee. Very frustrating for sure.
Maybe we need a injured mainac group rant!! :wall: :help:

Adding to my "joy", I went for a ride on my bicycle along the lakeshore...and I had a #$%^ flat!! Took almost 40 minutes to walk the #$%^ bike home!! :silenced:

Thanks guys... ARGH. Perhaps it is just an off day- I hope so! I feel slightly more positive after going to the gym to lift a few weights (BIG advantage of living around the corner from the gym). I've also put in PJ Harvey's "Rid of Me" album which got me through a lot of teenage angst! :)

I haven't been in for ultrasound since last Tuesday, so I think I will try to get in tomorrow. Perhaps a massage is in order as well, although I broke the bank with that a bit during the first couple of weeks after my injury.

So far the theory is that my lateral foot strike is sending shock waves up my shin/knee/ITB, and that the shoes I switched to in late March may have reduced the cushioning that the lateral part of my foot was getting. I got the new model of my old shoes on the weekend, so hopefully that will help.

This is the fifth week- it's GOT to start healing soon. I haven't been super down until now... I just really don't enjoy cross-training (except spinning) and I miss running terribly!

Thanks again for all the healing vibes... and C-Moss... my paw really doesn't taste very good!

Lisa, have you googled the term "MTSS" (medial tibial stress syndrome) ?

Symptoms of MTSS include, but not exclusive to:

- dull achy pain along the middle or lower part of the tibia
- pain present at the beginning of the run then subsides
- pain is usually present after running
- pain can become sharp and more constant if training is continued
- pain is reproduced with toe raise or hopping
- there is no swelling or numbness and tingling
- x-rays are usually normal

Lisa,

Friends (virtual or not) listen to the good and the bad so rant away. :) I'm sorry that this is not healing as quickly as you would like but try to be patience so you can come back strong. Hopefully going back to your old shoe model will make a difference.

Hang in there, kiddo. Hopefully today was just a bad day and your next try will be better. Don't expect to come right back to your super strong self -- and keep listening to your body, stop when it say 'stop'.
