February Walking Shallonge!
February Walking Shallonge
2 ways to play:
% increase: take your average from the "test" week, and add a certain % to it to get to these levels:
Add 30% = GOLD
Add 20% = SILVER
Add 10% = BRONZE
# steps: take your average for the week, and obtain one of these levels:
10 000 = GOLD
8 000 = SILVER
6 000 = BRONZE
You need to count at least 5 days/week. This will account for days that where you mess up with the pedometer (i.e. forget to put it on, or, drop and break it). This doesn't mean you count your best 5 days, but, you need 5 days minimum to get an average for your week.
Decide ahead of time how you will play. You may switch it up each week!
Post your plan below, as well as your results!

Re: February Walking Shallonge!
After reviewing my results from my test week, I'm going to start off my going for GOLD in the # steps - i.e. attempt to hit 10 000 each day.
This probably means that Sheamus will get walked.

Re: February Walking Shallonge!
According to my test week, my daily average is about 4500. So my GOLD goal is 6000 steps a day.
If I manage to make my GOLD goal consistently for a couple of weeks, I might up my goal.

I'm like Kara...going with % increase.
My average was 6715 steps.
Planning for Gold with 8730 for the next two weeks.
And then will re-assess for a new goal

Wow! I know that I was up a lot while at work - especially in the morning. In the afternoon - I was sitting a lot, and, boy, was my hip ever sore by home-time!

Re: February Walking Shallonge!
Just squeeked in 8745 yesterday...morning I was very sedentary as I was on the train.
I'm not going to report daily. I'll keep a paper log of my steps and post on Sundays
Or...do you want me to post daily?

Jo-Jo, do what is comfortable for you.
Personally I will post daily, but I will just add to my post above, so I always know my log is on page 1.

Okay - I'm pedometer'd up (thanks Mike!) and ready to go! I'm not quite sure if it is recording all my steps, since walking around my house this morning to feed the cats was only 10 steps, but we'll see! Maybe I just need to walk in a bouncier fashion...

Re: February Walking Shallonge!
hmm......10 steps doesn't seem right - try walking 20 steps in a row and see what you get.
Me, on the other hand, had a very step-less day. It definitely gave me a bit of an appreciation for those that don't work out of an office. Of course, I didn't go out to run any errands (besides walking Delilah around the corner to her dayhome, but, I picked her up in the car - since we were going to get James from the hospital!).....but, I'm only at 4000 or so right now.
I was thinking of going out for a walk, but, I really need to get a Yoga workout in....so, yoga it is!

Re: February Walking Shallonge!
I did a lot of sitting today. I sat at the dentist office, I sat in my office and took care of some much needed admin stuff, and I sat and folded 6 loads of laundry (which had all been washed and brought upstairs yesterday), so, though I got some stuff done from my to do list, I didn't get many steps in.
I don't suppose it counts if each step was a sore one? I seem to have completely ceased up from the Muscle Pump class on Monday.

Re: February Walking Shallonge!
ok - my total for yesterday was about 3200. That included running up and down six flights of stairs twice, a trip to the bank at lunch and an evening on my feet coaching. Strange. But I'm not too concerned about the actual number - just seeing an improvement. So - today, I aim for more than that!

that does seem low - OR, my new pedometer really overestimates - which, you're right, as long as you are using the same pedometer all the time, improving on your current number is what matters!

So, I'm only at 6000 today - my plans got foiled for lunchtime - which clearly affected me - and, I was going to test out my hip tonight with a bit of a run/walk (which of course I'm not supposed to wear the pedometer for, right?!)
anyway, today, will be lower than 10000 as well.
Guess i better walk my butt off this weekend!

I'm bad with Fridays. This is the second Friday that I have completely forgotten to wear my pedometer.

Wednesday - 3264
Thursday - 7590
Friday - <3000 (I took it off when I got changed for dinner and forgot to put it back on. Driving to Barrhaven doesn't take many steps)
Thursday included a walk of approx 3.5km, that gave me around 3500 steps. Since I'm fairly certain my strides aren't 1m long when I'm walking (I'm 5'2"!), it's safe to say I'm underestimating. But still a good improvement over Wednesday!

I forgot to wear my pedometer yesterday...but if I were to guess based on my activity levels yesterday compared to other days this week, I'd have been at least 4500 ish.
I've got it on today, so I'll have an actual number for a 5th day.
Average so far: 4803
So I still have some effort to make to get an average of 6000.

Sigh...
My weekly average was below goal..only 7875.
And I've decided to drop out of the Shallonge. February is a crazy time of the office with long hours...working through lunch...and evening appointments.
My main priority this month is to get my training runs in for ATB.
More walking will have to wait until March.
I don't need the added stress of trying to increase my steps per day at this point
BUT...walk on Fellow Maniacs....I'll be following your journey with interest and encouragement
