Hey all.

Although I am a big fan of procrastinating, there are only 48 spots before Creemore reaches its cap. I think that the 706 runners at Niagara will be looking for another flat, fast course. If you squint your eyes and ignore rational thought, that would be Creemore!
It's a hill. Get over it!

What's the scoop on footwear, road shoes or trail shoes?

This is a tough one for me because of the amount of road on this course. My road shoes are all racing flats or light trainers which are pretty crap on trail, and I hate running roads in trail shoes. Although the roads in Creemore are fairly "rustic" I might get away with the trail shoes. If I had a pair of standard road shoes I'd definitely go with them.

You can get away with a pair of road shoes, but there might be some muddy sections and a really rocky downhill at one point, so you might have to slow down there.

You can also get away with trail shoes, too, because the roads are mostly gravel roads. On the 1-2k stretch of paved road you can run on the shoulder.

I'm ran in my trail shoes in the last 3 years, so I'll be wearing my old Mizuno Ascend 3s.

If your road shoes are white and you like that color, you might want to go with the trail shoes. See, there is a stretch with nice, deep shoe-sucking red mud that stains real good. I'm not sure if it's always like that, but if it is wet, your shoes will never be white again.

  So true!! The gaiters I wore at the Spring Warmup in '09 were white with snowmen design. They've had a red hue since.
I'm hoping the trails are not too muddy around Creemore.

Met the RDs at the Harp in Niagara on the Lake this past saturday after the Niagara 50K. Looking forward to seeing them again at the race! Is anyone camping the night before?

Hey Hezzy! I'm RD for Creemore. Campers include Ultra Queen and the Viking, Sharon Z (OUS Treasurer), Clay W (I think he camped last year) and Hillary from Kenya, if he can get a visa. We have been known to open the refreshments early to keep the bonfire heat from our mouths...

To heck with injuries...I'm back in (and registered :D ). With a 200 cap as per the registration site, there are now 3 spots left. Should be 2 soon, as I'm banking on a good friend, Andrew W., registering this afternoon.
Not to snub you Doonst, but I won't be chasing you around on this one. I need some revenge on Andrew, who beat me for only the second time when we ran Sulphur Springs. Strategy is the key.

Chainsaw,
We have a problem.
My friend had his wife register him for the race, and she erroneously registered him for the 50 km instead of the 25 km. Is there anyway you can switch him back down to the 25? If he had to run the 50, you'd end up finding him in the fetal position halfway up the escarpment (and me as well, as I'd have to upgrade to the 50 if he can't downgrade...LOL)
His name is Andrew Wallace.

Let me know.

Wonder if his wife just purchased a life insurance policy for (err, on) him ??

Shoe question.
How gnarly are the trails at CVC? My reason for asking is that while I have some very nice trail shoes, I just LOOVE running in my racing flats. Its all I usually run in.
Would I survive running in these? Grip is not an issue.....its the rock/root profile I'm looking for.
Thanks.

If only that question was asked and answered slightly higher on this same page.
I think the consensus is that it is a mixed bag, and you could choose either and still they would be appropriate for half the course. I think I'll decide depending on how wet its been by race day.
