The Sulphur Springs thread started off this way, innocently, and blossomed into a fun little thread. So why not....

I hope to. There are some possible family plans that may interfere. Maybe, 25 K. I heard its hilly.

I've heard it is....only 9 kms are flat, there are rope assist sections, it finishes in the RDs backyard where you can jump in a creek, and there's free Creemore Springs beer at the finish (yummy)!

What more can you ask for?

hhmm those are the correct ingredients for fun. So 1/3 of the race is flat?

Would like to, I'll see if it fits.

I've heard 9 K are flat or downhill, the rest is up.
Hey! For some strange reason, people seem to think that you should train on
hills in order to do well on the fairly flatish Creemore race. This makes
little sense as well over 9K of the 25K course is level or even downhill!

A 25 K hourglass loop with 50% trail, 50% country road and almost no cliffs. The course is hilly (60% uphill and 30% downhill), climbing the Niagara Escarpment twice with about 875 metres of vertical ascent per loop.

That's about one and a half times the elevation change of Sulphur Springs 25 K.

I ask you Robbie, who would think that was fun??

Okay, this is likely just a rumour, but Hillary Kipkorrir from Kenya has asked to be invited to run CVC. This is so he can get a Canadian visa... Never heard of Hillary? He's only 19 and trains with Paul Tergat (another Kenyan). I think Paul runs marathons. I told Hillary that Creemore is a tiny race, with trails and does not offer a marathon distance. Hillary says he is good with that and will run the race if he can get a visa...

Hillary ran a 2:19 marathon in December (remember, he is only 19!). I expect he would run the 25K, so anyone expecting to win (Airforcerunner?) had better bring their A game...

2:19???
It's a hill. Get over it!

Is it fun? No... the allure of Creemore Springs beer and pizza within 50 feet of the finish should do nothing to entice you let alone the thought of taking said items into the river and just sitting there wondering why you put yourself through such *fun* as you check out the handmade clay medal you just received. It is NO fun, stay away and then there's more beer and pizza for me!

Keep this in mind during the race and all will be well, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8T97f2kBzOQ
There's a pseudo-hallucinogenic vibe there. It might be your reality in the last 25k.

Seriously... Chainsaw puts on a good show and that darn suspension bridge at the end is a blast if not handled properly. Contrary to common sense, it is possible to stick your knee up your a*s*s.

Wow, this reads like a race report. I should actually try one sometime.
Cheekfully,

Rabid Chipmunk

Where Sulphur is mostly short "rolling hills" (other than the two special ones we've grown to love), Creemore has quite a few loooong hills, some of them steep. It also has big sections on gravel roads. Some of the trail sections are harsh, like you-need-a-rope-to-go-up harsh. If it's sunny and warm (can you spell July?), some of those road sections can be HOT. I can't be positive because I've never run the 50K at Sulphur, but from my 50k split at Sulphur (I was running 50mi) I believe Creemore ends up being a harder course.

Good comparison by JD. The weather is a big factor at Creemore, as it is hot and sunny and there aren't many shaded sections. I think Creemore has tougher, longer hills. You can have a look at previous years' results and compare. I think times at Creemore are slower.
I've done both races for the last couple of years and I'm doing them again. Good luck!

I guess I haven't learned my lesson last weekend. It was all so clear during my last loop: "I will never run an ultra again"; How did that become: "Count me in for 50k"?

Well I had to make a decision between Limberlost and Creemore, and Limberlost won since it's closer. 2 races in one month would be too much for DH and the kids. Not to mention I'd like to squeeze in a Hali training run... AND the fact that this one scares the crap out of me... AND...
