Edmonton Fat Ass 50 - January 1st, 2011
So is anybody running the Fat Ass 50 this year. Start is at the Kinsman, 6am (I kid you not) for two-lappers, anytime before 9am for one-lappers. See the Blackfoot FB page for details.

Is there some sort of registration? Or do you just show up a few minutes early with some cookie money...
If it's not stupid cold, I'll give this one some thought.

you just show up and give them your name and cash.

If you start prior to 7 am it is on an honor system to just tell them what time you started. Usually after 7 am there is someone just inside kinsmen to take your start/finish time and $3. Its fun and informal. You can see others on the trail usually (although you never know with it being on the actual NYD - other years I've run it wasn't Jan 1).

The course is a little odd this year with the Quesnel bridge foot path being closed. Here is the map...

I have family visiting this year so I can't make the trip for the run. It would be a great way to start the year.

fun morning... lots of people out running, I got to sit in the Kinsmen and count the people rolling in, maybe next year I'll half ass this one much cheaper than the resolution run!
Just call me the thread killa

Hey Terry,
Is that a special rig you have taking the video? Digital camera or DVR? I've been thinking of getting something for my running and hiking.
Cheers,
Stuart

I'm using a GoPro Hero HD cam. It's a tiny little POV video camera with a fisheye lens and comes with a bunch of different mounts. So far I've tried the chest mount and the head mount. They are selling them at Best Buy for $199 for the 760HD version or $349 for the 1080p HD version (for this type of video the 760HD version is more than good enough if you ask me). I found out on the FatAss video that there is too much sway with the chest mount (which you have to buy separately). I used the head mount (which comes included with the camera) on the snowshoeing video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO2bhWtkM9Y and there is a lot less sway. Mixing the Hero POV cam with a handycam for steady shots is probably the best option for putting a video together. Check out Gary Robbins video of running the WCT at
