Dirty Girls 2012
http://dirtygirlsrun.com/dirty_girls_run/index.html
The date for DG 2012 is set. I am so happy. My SO's family is having a reunion the first weekend of August 2012. I wanted to run DG this year but didn't think I was properly trained. I planned on running it in 2012 but was worried it would conflict with with reunion. Now it doesn't. Yeah!!

Hope this race is in the cards for me in 2012. I've wanted to do it now for two years and I have yet to make it out. Maybe this will be the year

I'm hoping to make it this year as well -- was on the list for last year, but my foot dictated otherwise....

Re: Dirty Girls 2012
I plan vacation time around DG. Looking forward to doing my 5th consecutive year. August 2008 I did the 6 hour completing my fist “Ultra” distance http://westgreyrunner.blogspot.com/2008 ... girls.html. I returned in 2009 and joined the 24 hours race late in the afternoon for my first “50 Miler” http://westgreyrunner.blogspot.com/2009 ... e-day.html. In 2010 they introduced a Belt Buckle for those completing 120km yet another new distance for me http://westgreyrunner.blogspot.com/2010 ... -2010.html. This past summer I tried for the buckle again but succumbed to the heat calling it a day after 17 hours http://westgreyrunner.blogspot.com/2011 ... -race.html.
I suspect that registration will open on Feb 14. The 24 hour race sells out first so if that’s your thing register early. Last year the 12 hour was switched to a night run and I really liked the changed. There was lots of folks on the trail overnight and when the race ended in the morning there was the same sort of buzz and excitement as you get at the beginning of the race… it was fun!

Hello All!
I'm going to give you an update on the 48 hour race. If you're interested, great, if not, that's fine too. Bottom line, the 48 hour race IS ON for 2012.
The Questionnaire was very helpful as it demonstrated that not everyone agrees on every option. Combined with our logistical challenges of putting on the race, here is a brief summary of what options were mutually agreed upon & will be implemented:
dirty girls 48 hour race
Friday August 10th 8 a.m. to Sunday August 12th 8 am.
Pacers allowed from Friday 8 p.m. onwards
Usual 10k course
Both the 5k and the start/finish aid station will be manned/stocked
Usual tenting option along the course start/finish
Benchmarks:
1. 100 miles
2. 170k (i.e. a full loop after 100 miles is reached) WITH a minimum number of hours on course (those hours are yet to be determined)
$200 Cdn
Registration will open in December. We are just working on a volunteer incentive package for all events.
Email me with any questions. Thanks so much - and thank you to Charlotte and Kinga who initiated this idea back in the summer. Although it is A LOT of work, it is an incredible, incredible opportunity to provide an event that pushes the bounds of human potential.

Re: Dirty Girls 2012
48 hours!!!!?? Thats nuts! Presumably one would take the opportunity to have a few sleeps in that time?
Is the 12 hour race a night race again? (It may say this on the website, but my work IT policy wont open the page.... "dirty girls" I suppose!)
I wouldnt mind giving the 12 hour a crack, i'm intrigued by night races, but not sure if i'd fancy 24 hours/ 100 miles.

Killerz
The 24 hour race was $160.00 and for an extra $40.00 you get to go another 24 hours. It just makes sense to me!
Not sure on the 12 hour night thing but I suspect it will be the same as 2011. It sure made for lots of fun in the Forest overnight.

I highly enjoyed my 3 day multi-day, but I did sneak off to a motel for a shower and some sleep. Other more diligent people had cots and tents at the aid station. For females, I'd take some "wet ones" to clean up periodically and have a tent that offers privacy.

What I think will be funny is when the main races start on Saturday morning and your guys are already on the course looking like zombies, it will freak out a few people I'm sure.

Re: Dirty Girls 2012
I'm so excited and scared by this it's crazy. I was looking for something to kick thinks up a notch in 2012 and this is it without a doubt. Kudos to the organisers and volunteers. Any multidayers out there want to shed some light on what to do differently in training and racing a 48 instead of a 100?

I honestly don't have a specific training plan for the 48hr. I'm thinking I'll be doing a few runs where I start before midnight and run through the night and the better part of the day, like I did at the Not So Flat Sulphur fatass. It worked well for me.
In terms of strategy, I imagine I might have to crash to sleep for a couple of minutes at some point during the race. I usually get hyper and sleeping is the last thing on my mind at these races, but in a 48hr period I should be able to get to the zombie-hood level where I can just lay down and pass out for 20-30 minutes. No idea what my body will feel like... I imagine I'll get super stiff, but hopefully I'll be able to continue. This is new territory for me, too. The longest I've run in a race is 28 hrs and 7 minutes and I'm looking at a 36 hr cutoff at HURT100, so I'll have a better idea of what it feels like to run well past the 24hr mark.

Re: Dirty Girls 2012
This is great that Diane and team have added the 48 hour category. Make this type of insanity very accessible to Ontario runners - I imagine folks were having to travel for this length of event previously.

Good luck to all the normal (32k is 4 loops and 6 hour), near-normal (12H and 24H) and leaning-towards-unbalanced (48H) runners! I'll be on timing and then S/F aid station Saturday and clean-up Sunday morning. Yell out your bib number!

Re: Dirty Girls 2012
Good luck to everyone running this weekend!!
As much as I would have loved to run the 48hr event, this season has shaped up to be a less competitive one for me and I realized the 48hr is not in the cards this summer due to serious lack of training and trail deprivation. A few weeks ago I was thinking of downgrading to the 24hr, but circumstances changed yet again and I opted to volunteer throughout the whole weekend. The Viking and I will be in Mansfield from Thursday evening until Sunday afternoon and if my work station is well staffed and things are going smoothly, I hope to sneak out for a few loops with anyone needing a pacer this weekend.
Looking forward to helping out in any capacity I can!

I hope Di does it again next year. I heard it's been a bit of a logistical mess so this would likely be a 1 time deal, I hope not! Steve, Chris and I would all be interested but timing wasn't in the cards as we're all racing the following weekend. I really hope it goes well and it's offered again.

I second Mega Moes posting. Really wish I could do the 48 hr. Hope Diane runs it again next year.
Hey Ron, dont get sucked into going to fast with those 24hr runners.
