Anyone done any training in the kelso area,I'm looking for some hill work and with the weather coming this week I like the sounds of an area with its own lake.

A bit although I tend towards Rattlesnake and Hilton Falls. You can run up the ski runs at Kelso. Is that the sort of thing you are looking for? Not much tree cover on the ski runs. There's better tree cover at Rattlesnake but no lake.

It might be worthwhile sending a pm to Doonst. He's in that general area.

I've run at Kelso a few times. It's actually relatively flat at the top of the escarpment. Up and down the ski hill, or over near the ruins you'll find some hills. Get ready for repeats though!

Sulpher Springs 50 mile
North Face Blue Mountain 50 mile
Creemore Verticle Challenge 75km
Wasatch Front 100 Mile
Tour du Massif 50km
Somethin' else...

You can jump on the Bruce Trail in either direction and get a good workout. North to Hilton Falls there are several loops possible, popular with ultrarunners training in the summer heat. South west goes to ITT country, with some tricky sections. Kelso itself isn't that big but can be a great place to start and finish.
For hills you can't beat Hockley Valley near Orangeville.

This broken wing will fly again
One fine day
This blackbird's mute gonna sing again
One fine day

So all you sinners come out
And all you drunkards crawl out
Come into the light of one fine day

Hockley Valley and surrounding Bruce Trails are my regular turf... I'd be happy to suggest some loops depending on what you are looking for.
Lesson one: "Don't fight the trail - take what it gives you. If you have a choice between one step or two between rocks, take three".

Lesson two: "Think Easy, Light, Smooth and Fast." You start with easy, because if that's all you get, that's not so bad.
