"Unknown" Zach Miller: "greatest JFK performance ever"

Postby bruyere » Sun Nov 24, 2013 5:59 pm

On this morning's run, I was asked, "Did you hear what happened at JFK?"

I guess I should've paid more attention to my Twitter feed!

25 year-old Zach Miller, in his first 50 miler, came in with the 3rd fastest time in course history, in very windy conditions. He hadn't heard about the race until about a month ago. And he works on cruise ships and does most of his training on treadmills.

Quote of the story? “...But I was a little skeptical because 50 miles is a long way.”

(I also love how they refer to Ellie as "international superstar"... Hells ya!)

Here's a video with his finish: http://www.heraldmailmedia.com/sports/j ... 0f31a.html

"The champion, who’d never run 50 miles before Saturday, said he’d never even heard of the JFK 50 Mile until last month, and didn’t even contact Spinnler about entering the race until last weekend.

While Spinnler granted Miller a late entry into the sold-out race, the director said he only did so because there were a few elite spots left, for which he said Miller barely qualified based on a recent 50K (31-mile) race."
