Bike Trainer For Christmas - Not What Do I Do With It :o)

Postby runcherylrun » Wed Dec 26, 2007 11:45 am

I am the new proud owner of a bike trainer :D :D

Very cool - just what I wanted.

So..............

Now what do I do with it??

Does anyone have some training programs I could implement?

Are there any beginers does & don'ts I should be aware of?

How can I best use it to enhance or compliment my running?

I don't necessarily just want to hop on & pedal, like my running I'd like some structure to it.

Help !!! :D :D :D

Maybe a video of the hill climbs of the Tour de France to watch and follow

Hey... lucky YOU!!!!

Well, I agree with Garths sugestions.....but I will add that until you get a program, use it as a spin bike. Very low tension...80-90 rpm. It is a great substitute for when you ca not get outside for a run.
You may want to sub-out your rear tire on your bike if it is a good one....as trainers wear them down.

Go online for a training program....or perhaps Andy can pop on for his oppinion given his running/biking experience!

ENJOY!

I have just been reading on mine. Makes the time go by faster :)

I mean reading while pedalling. I don't just sit there and read.

I PVR "The Biggest Loser" and "The Biggest Loser Australia" - good motivation!

Either that or I watch movies while spinning.

Cheryl, I have a great book by Dede Demet Barry that lays out a variety of programs

She is a former pro cyclist and her husband Michael (originally from TO) still rides with Team High Road (formerly T-Mobile)

I read to study while pedaling, sometimes I catch up on tv/movies depending on length of ride. I have a fan situated permanently in front of my trainer as well. :)

I worship at the altar of Coach Troy Jacobson and his Spinervals! :) Nice structured training and a guy who encourages you too!

Personally, I think that if you can read and pedal at the same time, you are not working hard enough.

I posted some workout ideas in gwnorth's thread.

I gave the DH for Christmas the entire IMC bike course on DVD - apparently filmed by a rider with a camera attached to his helmet - and they tell you which gear you should be in.....

6-7 hrs of fun awaits!
