I've been to my local running room four times in the last few weeks, spending about an hour each time. I've already tried and returned two pairs of shoes, and have one more pair to try. Really, though, I want my old pair of shoes - only without all the mileage!
I checked Holabird, but for some reason they won't ship them outside of the USA. Even checking now, I can't find the old version of the Asics Gel Stratus, just the new "2.1" version with extra ankle support that chafes me.
Does anyone know where I can find the old Gel Stratus that will ship to (or better yet, within) Canada?

sometimes holabird *says* they can't ship certain shoes to canada but if you give them a call, they will (must be a jurisdiction thing with certain brands...?). it doesn't hurt to call and ask.
my shoes are $170 here. The same ones are $140 in edmonton and $100 through holabird. so I'll buy them here once since I'm testing out a new size on the new model, but if it works I'm going back to holabird!!

It's true. I just bought Asics shoes from Holabird over the phone and they sent them by mail...arrived in 7 days, no duties, no taxes. The sales guy explained they can't take international orders online, but phone orders is not a problem.

they CAN take international orders online, just not for certain brands.

ananas, I found the 2.1 at Cleve's Source for Sports. They are likely available at SportChek now too, but not sure. The 2.1 has a lot more ankle support, and caused me some pretty serious chafing for less than 500m of running. Try them, but I wouldn't bank on keeping them. If you also like the old Gel Stratus, then you might like some of the other shoes I tried, like the Saucony Triumph 6 or the Nike Vomero +4 or something like that. Pricier, but nice shoes.
Eljeffe, I was going to order through Holabird by calling... but I couldn't find them in stock anymore when I went looking! Also tried Hashem's Variety in PEI, based on an old post I found while searching, but they didn't have my size in stock.
I should have my new shoes next week, can't wait to start ramping up marathon training in them! Thanks all!

Just two pairs, Andy. I figure that's enough for now, and by the time they wear out, I should be ready to look for something new. Go with what you love, right?

and, if you are lucky, by the time you need more, they may be reducing the price of whatever stock is remaining ....
