Where to buy a cowbell?

Postby soccergrrl » Fri Apr 09, 2010 8:20 pm

Hey there,
I'd like to get a cowbell to make some noise on the sidelines this year. I know I can buy one at a music store but I was hoping not to have to pay that kind of money. This will only be used for cheering on other runners (and for my husband and kids to cheer me on :D ). Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might find one?
Thanks!

I've seen them at farm supply stores.

If you have a iPhone, there's an app for that! You can turn your iPhone into a cowbell: More cowbell!

the olympic store was selling them ... not sure if they still are or not. THey had 2 sizes and were ones made for race cheering instead of percussion style ones ...

You can apparently get them (and other interesting things) at a place called the UFA in Alberta, but that doesn't help you in Richmond Hill.

Is there a farm supply store near Ottawa? Would somewhere like Apple Saddlery have them?

I've never seen them at Apple Saddery before (have to go there a few times for stuff for my mum's horse farm) but they might be able to order them for you. Same with Greenhawk (also a horse supply store). There is a farm supply store (Tractor Supply Co.) in Arnprior that I saw them at last summer.

Steal one off a cow!!!

I've previously searched eBay and found some reasonably priced cowbells. Have yet to pull the trigger because it's not an "essential" item and we're trying to save money.

As large as a cowbell may get, it will never be louder than Hulagirl's outfit!

Forgot about Princess Auto! Scrum, the Princess Auto here in Ottawa (on Hawthorne off of Walkley I think?) has all sorts of farm supplies. My dad went there a couple of times when he was last here in Ottawa.

Not a cowbell...but when I was cheering at IMC last summer, we used my mom's bear bells. Our little cheering section sounded like Christmas :)

Pennies in a plastic water bottle works, too.

good thinking. bear bells at MEC are only $3.

i bought mine at michaels (the arts and crafts store). they have a couple of sizes, i bought the biggest. it was under $10, which is probably still more than a 'real' cow bell, but michaels is close by so i likely saved the difference in gas and time.

i've had it for 3 years and cheered a LOT -- it's still going strong! :D

UFA was on my way home - Princess Auto is out by Pet Planet on Barlow. And it was a green shirt and pink tie. I think the guy behind the counter knew I didn't actually own two cows.

I had no idea this post would get this many replies - awesome!
I'll check out Michael's and ebay. I never even thought about a farm supply place (doh! that's so obvious - using a cowbell on a cow!). There are still farms around so I'll see if I can find one of those.

I would have been seriously disappointed if no one had referenced "more cowbell"

Thanks everyone!

Good luck in your search.
Marc bought mine at the Co-op Store (they sell feed etc)...he said they didn't have a huge supply...maybe it's no longer "in" for cows to wear bells. :D
